"Hey mama," Asante smiled, hooking her phone up to the Bluetooth in her car.
"Hey baby, was just calling to see how your day was. I just got back from the gym, Nala worked me to death," Egypt ran her hand across her face, she was drenched in sweat.
"Yeah, I can see," she snickered, knowing that her mom had struggled with getting out of the house. She was happy to see her trying new things. "My day has been interesting, a client of mine is going through some legal stuff so I'm headed to this attorney's house to see what's going on,"
"Don't be getting into all of that Asante," Her mother shook her head, feeling a strange feeling in her gut. "I don't think this is gonna be a good idea mon amour,"
"I really think that I can help her out Ma. The attorney says that they could use some of my information for the case,"
"I understand, I just don't want this to be too much on your plate. I know your job means the world to you,"
Asante felt a knot forming in her throat. She has worked so hard to get to this point. She has gone through so much throughout her college years and being able to finally work her dream job was an accomplishment for her. She secured her spot and doesn't want to jeopardize it and after speaking with her mom she's beginning to have some second thoughts about helping Stella.
"I don't know everything yet so after this conversation I have, I'll be able to decide if it's something I want to commit to. I can't share any information about my client unless I have her consent. I just don't know why she never brought it up in our sessions," Asante kept her eyes on the road.
The address Dakari sent was a lengthy drive from her place. She was happy to have some company but she preferred her music while she drove, the drive just went by a lot faster.
"Maybe shame, when we do things we're not proud of it's hard for us to talk about it. She's probably not comfortable coming to you about it. I hope everything works out for her. I'm gonna go, but I love you,"
"I love you too mama," Asante sighed.
Asante wasn't expecting anything less from her conversation with her mother. Egypt was very protective over her kids and wasn't too fond to hear about her daughter being a part of a case. Whether it was the crime shows she watched or her own experiences, she knew that these things can be very tricky. She just didn't want her daughter to be caught up in the wrong thing.
"Fuck, I don't even wanna do this shit anymore," Asante threw her head back at the red light. Her mother gets in her head easily and it's got a lot to do with her trusting her mother's inner knowing. She has been able to get Asante out of many conflicts and when she doesn't listen, she has to face the consequences.
Maybe this time will be different?
She wasn't too sure, she still doesn't know what was going on so she decided to still hear Dakari out.
