Jeffery pulled Genevieve and James out just in time. The house had started rumbling more and more violently.
Once Genevieve was out, it all stopped.
Jeffery looked at the house and then Genevieve in confusion.
They must be connected somehow, he thought to himself
"Unbelievable." He muttered. They each stared up at the house. Each remembering their experiences whether they be long-lived or quite short.
Jeffery shook his head and grabbed James' arm. The guy looked like he wanted to burn the whole house down.
While Genevieve just stood and stared up at the house, as if she saw something that none of the others saw.
"Gen, You coming!" Jeffery asked, from his car. Everybody in the car was looking at Gen.
She did, in fact, see something that nobody saw. She saw Gracey looking at her from his room on the second floor. His curtains were drawn and she could tell it was his room because of the wooden headboard. He stared down at her, like he wanted her to stay desperately. She saw the look in his eyes. It was sad, it was lonely.
He looked like he did in his portrait.
"Yeah, I am." She said turning around and walking to the car.
Once she sat down in the car and slammed the door she noticed that Jane and Charlene had changed out of their costumes. Jeffery and James of course, were still in theirs. Only Gen remained in her dress.
Jeffery started driving.
Then, she felt her pocket. She stuck her hand into her pocket and felt her phone. It was there! She smiled and looked down at her ring that Gracey gave her.
"I've got proof." She whispered.
Jeffery looked up into his rearview mirror and asked, "What's this proof you keep going on about?"
James shifted his head to glare out of the window.
She took it off and held it to show Jeffery. His foot nearly stomped on the brakes.
"Do you know what that is!?" Jeffery yelled.
"No!" She yelled back.
"That's the Gracey family crest! Four had been made for each of the family members, two for the parents and two for the children. The eldest, Robert, died at sea. Edward, the youngest, died of unknown causes. The town pronounced him dead one day and everyone went along with it."
I looked out of the window, not knowing what to say. I had heard the story from Gracey himself just fifteen minutes ago.
Jeffery hands the ring back and continues driving out of the swamp. I stick it back into my pocket and then, I feel a slip of paper. My lips from a bit of an "O". Jane notices.
"Is everything alright back there, Genevieve?" Jane asks.
I look at her and smile. "Of course it is Jane."
And we, the survivors of this Halloween night, drive on to our homes to go dream and forget about this night.
But not I. I've seen and done things I've only dreamed about, how could I possibly forget this night?
