"Class Clown"

--

LUKE;

His steps heavily slapped against the gravel beneath him, as he threw one in front of the other, hitting the ground. The fog smothering the air had cleared, and the tall, pointy pine trees stood like figures watching Luke. It was damp, and the air was moist.

Luke saw Ivy on the way as he walked with Calum, they ended up walking all the way there.

He had made plans with her, her friends, and Calum, his new friend and neighbor, to meet at Luke's locker and show him around the school.

Luke didn't think Calum liked Ivy, but they soon started getting along really well. Almost too well.

Even though they seemed to get along well, there was still the 'newly-made-friends' type of awkward silence. They ran out of words to say, and as the previously spoken words dissolved in the atmosphere, leaving it clear, they'd all hope to replace them.

What surprised Luke most was that she brought no friends along with her. She awkwardly wavered her way into conversation, slipping a small smile every now and then. As she talked she showed him what passion is. Words rolled off her lips as words flew out of her mouth. He'd known her for a solid day, but it is something strange about her.

Spite that, she was gorgeous. Her hair was long, dark brown and mostly purple. Her eyes were brown, but they were beautiful in every way.

Luke didn't know her, though. He didn't know her personality. He doesn't know what she was like, her favorite colours or her favorite songs to hum while she's under the stars, he didn't know anything.

They were showing Luke around the school field.

It was almost the end of the first break, it was grey and dim, the sky has yet to be clear. The grass was green, it reminded Luke of the field he met Ivy in. Benches lined the very back of the field, facing the football field.

"And this, is the field. Nothing special, but the football field is definitely something." Calum and Ivy both explain.

They grab Luke by the wrists and run, eager to show him the football field.

They run through the front and straight into the field. It was breath taking.

Bleachers surrounded the the marked grass and huge goal posts were propped on either side. Numbers were marked on the grass neatly indicating yard numbers. Luke felt tiny in the field.

"Trust me, it feels really big, but once you start playing, you'll feel as if it's the smallest field you've ever experienced." Calum said, throwing an arm over Luke's shoulder.

"Playing?" Luke asks, raising an eyebrow.

Ivy and Calum look at each other. "You're trying out for this years Forest Lake State football team, right?" Calum questioned him.

Luke laughed mentally. He's never been good at any sport. He's tried everything, from soccer to basketball, but he's never been actually good. "Why would I do that?" He sarcastically commented, crossing his arms.

Calum looked Luke up and down as Ivy laughed. "Well, no offence and everything, but looking over the fact that you're like 9 foot tall, your shoulders are the width of China, and that you're generally a skinny-but-very-huge human, I don't know why you would want to do that." Calum said as he giggled like a little girl.

"Shit." Luke cussed under his breath.

The first break was over, and the teens headed inside along with the few weary faces which decided to stay on school grounds during lunch.
