Someone Special | The Maze Runner: Minho

Chapter 8

The sound of gunfire and then the clanking of the door locks wake you up along with the others. You all get out of bed and stand looking at the door, not knowing who to expect. The doors swing open and in comes a lone guard, but something was different. The guard walks in, and dropping his hold on the gun, he reaches for his mask and pulls it upwards to take off. 

"Gally?" You are all surprised to see Gally standing there. "How did you get out," asks Thomas. "I'll explain later, but good to see everyone," Gally responds. "Minho's was taken somewhere," you say. "Then let's go get him back." Gally turns and walks out the door, instructing you guys to take the suit and guns of the guards that are scattered and lying on the ground or against the wall. Everyone is further surprised but does as Gally says.

You slip on the guard suit and mask and pick up the taser gun left on the ground. "Thomas, you go ahead with Newt and y/n. Chuck, Frypan. Help me get the others out and the serum from the vault," Gally says. "Be careful," Newt tells Gally. Thomas nods in Gally's direction before turning and running down the hallway with you and Newt following close behind.

Theresa walks towards you guys, but the three of you look straight ahead and walk calmly, hoping others will not find you guys suspicious. But then Theresa comes in front and tells you guys to follow her. You turn to look at Thomas and Newt, but follow either way because not doing so will be seen as out of the ordinary. The three of you walk behind Theresa, hands holding onto the guns if needed. You enter the elevator after Theresa and stand to the side. Inside, you are scared, hoping no one finds out who is truly under the masks. No sirens yet, that's good...I hope.

Just as the elevator doors are about to close, a hand comes in between, and the doors open, revealing Janson on the other side. He enters and nods his head at you guys before turning around and pressing the button to the top floor. Janson looks over to Theresa, "You're working late. But that's what I like about you, you continue to work hard no matter these challenging situations. There's one thing you should know, from one friend to another. Minho–" Janson is cut off as the elevator doors open. "This is me," Theresa says before walking out onto the platform. You, Thomas, and Newt follow without looking back. The elevator doors close, but he finds something odd, so he pushes the button to go back to the floor you guys left on.

You walk down the path until you reach a glass door. Thomas subtly points the gun against Theresa's back before saying, "Take us to Minho." Theresa stiffens and then shakes her head, saying she doesn't know where he is. But she does, and Thomas knows it. Thomas takes off his mask and gets in front of her face, mad. She turns to look at the other two guards behind her, and you take off your mask, saying "hi Theresa." "...I'll take you guys to Minho, but just let me run some tests," Theresa said in hopes of persuading you. "There is no cure. You tortured us, you sent us up there to fend for ourselves," you yell.

Just then, guards come running up on all sides, and in the middle path, Janson stands in front. "I wouldn't waste your breath, Theresa," he says with a gun pointed in your direction. You and Newt move behind and Thomas grabs Theresa across the shoulder before pointing the handgun at her head. "Tell them to back off," Thomas says. But Janson knows Thomas won't shoot.

Theresa quickly turns around, slides her card, and pushes Thomas and Newt through the glass door before pulling the red emergency level, sounding the alarms. You see Thomas and Newt standing behind the closed doors, but remembering you are on the side with guards, you turn and raise your taser gun. Just a little too late, a guard grabs the gun before you could shoot and gets hold of you, locking your arms behind you. You struggle and try to break out of the grip, but it's no use. "Your story better be good," you hear Janson say to Theresa. "I just did you a favor. The doors are sealed and they can't get out, and we have her," Theresa says before walking away and telling the guard to bring you up to her. The guard holding you pushes you in the direction Theresa left, and you turn to see Thomas and Newt disappearing within the sealed hallway. Janson orders the guards to follow him and they run as quickly up the stairs to catch up with Thomas and Newt.

Your wrists are strapped down to the chair you're sitting on, and you pull your arms in a struggle to get out. "Let me go," you growl at Theresa who is sitting in a chair facing the computer screen. She attempts to apologize for what she did to you, but you don't forgive her because of all she has put you and your friends through.

Theresa gets up and leaves the room without another word and you take this chance. You move your left hand and out comes the knife from your sleeve which you pickpocketed from the guard just before he strapped you down on the chair. You hold the knife in a way that allows you to cut the belt tying you down. The process was slow. Come on, come on. Please.

Elsewhere, Thomas and Newt are being pursued by the guards. They run through the hallways of WCKD, the continuous sound of the alarm following them. Eventually, the guards start shooting, but Thomas and Newt manage to dodge the bullets and shoot back at the guards, knocking a few unconscious and losing them. "Minho," Thomas yells as they run. They continue running but then come face to face with a guard just at the end of the hallway. "You two, freeze," the guard says with his gun pointed.

In the medical wing, Minho lies on an operating table. He slightly opens his eyes but is noticed by the assistant before he quickly closes his again to pretend he is still under. "Doctor, he's coming out of it." "Get me another sedative." As someone comes to check his eyes, Minho opens them, surprising the person before he stabs them in the leg, causing them to scream.

After escaping the medical wing, Minho runs. He comes upon the sight of a lone guard aiming the gun at something behind the wall. Minho charges at the guard, tackling him against the wall before grabbing and throwing him through the glass window of a room, screaming. He turns to see where the guard was pointing his gun at to see Thomas and Newt, surprised yet relieved. They run up to Minho and hug him. "Min," says Thomas. "Am I glad to see you," Newt adds on. Minho notices you're not there and asks about your whereabouts. And Newt breaks the news.

In the lab room, you continue hacking at the belt. Almost there. Finally, the belt breaks in half, freeing your left hand. You quickly unhook the belt tying your right wrist down, and at last, you are free. You run out of the room and continue to run without looking back. Right as you turn the hallway, you run right into Minho. You look at him with Thomas and Newt in the back, surprised, and then tears form as you run to him and hug him. You pull back before giving Newt and Thomas a hug as well, happy to see all three of your best friends alive.

The four of you run but right at the end of the hall stands Janson along with guards behind. He has his gun raised and pointed, and he shoots multiple shots. You guys run into the room next to you and lock the door. "Any ideas," yells Minho, as he stares worriedly at the door. "Maybe," Thomas says quietly, looking down the window.

"One the count of three. One...two...three," and you all throw the oxygen tank at the window, watching as it falls all 30 floors before splashing in the waters down below. "We should be able to make it," Thomas adds in an unsure tone. You take Minho's hand in yours because this is probably the craziest thing you have ever done. Just as the door opens, the four of you run and jump through that window. You all scream before landing straight into the waters.

Climbing out of the pool, soaking from head to toe, you come face to face with more guards. "You four, don't move. And don't think about doing anything," yells the first of the guards. But before the guards could walk forward to take you guys, one of them turns and shoots the other three. Huh? He turns back around and takes off his mask to reveal a familiar face. "Gally," you say. He looks up at the floor you guys jumped from and back at you guys, saying "you guys are nuts" with amusement laced in his voice.

Minho has a confused look, but Gally nods at him, "Minho." He then turns to everyone else and tells you guys that Frypan and Chuck are on the plane with the others and the serum. "We just need to get to the station and they will come to get us, but to do that, we have to go back in," Gally informs.
