The sky was already losing its colours as the hours got late and you were getting nervous. April was supposed to pick you up from the airport about an hour ago and she wasn't answering any of your phone calls.

You let out a defeated sigh, your breath forming into a little cloud as it collided with the freezing air. You snuggled deeper into your coat hoping it would give you more warmth. This wasn't the kind of weather you were used to at all. Spending so much time studying abroad made you feel a little too comfortable. You completely forgot how cold it really gets in New York. You told yourself you would wait just a bit longer before calling a taxi in case she would eventually show up.

April was always like this. You knew she was probably doing some kind of crazy adventurous activity right now and she had completely forgotten about you. The two of you had known eachother since you were kids and it didn't surprise you. Caught up in your own thoughts, you didn't notice a van stopping a few feet from you.

"Hey there," your head popped up at the sudden noise, your eyes focusing on a middle aged male sitting in the front seat.
"Are you by any chance Y/n L/n?"

You looked around, confusion probably clear on your face. You've never seen the man before. "Yeah, that's me." you said, brows furrowed.

"I'm Vernon, April's friend. She sent me to pick you up." he said, looking you up and down with a slight smirk.

Oh. That Vernon.

You smiled slightly "I find that difficult to believe. April doesn't have any friends beside me."

"Yea, she warned me you had a bit of an attitude." Vern said with an amused tone.

What April probably didn't tell him was that you liked to make other people's lives difficult as a free time activity. You could tell this man had a short temper and that April really didn't think this through.

"Excuse you, I have plenty of attitude. It's like my whole personality." you corrected him crossing your arms playfully.

His smile dropped a little as he leaned in forward in his seat "Get in the van."

"How do I know you are not a crazy serial killer?" you asked innocently as you pretended to look around worried.

You could tell he was getting impatient by the annoyed look on his face "Do I really look like one?"

You tilted your head in thought "Hmm- no. Not really. You are not hot enough to be a psycho killer."

"Wh- WHAT" His whole face turned red in a matter of seconds and you had to hold in a laugh. "GET IN!" he yelled and you finally took a few steps closer with a satisfied smile on your face.

He got out of the van to help you with your suitcase and you thanked him as you sat in the passenger seat. When he returned back inside still muttering something angrily under his breath you could have sworn to hear him say 'I would make an excelent murderer'.

"So why did April send you?" you asked to break the silence as he started the car. His shoulders relaxed a bit but he didn't answer, obviously still mad at you. You laughed "Come on man! You are seriously upset that I said you don't look like a serial killer?"

"No." he said carefully, thinking about what you just said. "She had uh- business to attend to."

You hummed in response and turned around to watch the road. You were glad that you didn't have to freeze outside anymore, you thought to yourself as you were passing people on the busy streets. You were a bit upset that April stood you up like this but at least this was interesting.
