~Six Months Ago~
It had been two days since Parker and I had "died" in the explosion and they still had yet to be successful in tracking down Sam. We had spent most of that time cooped up in a small hidden room at one of the safe houses just outside the city. While we both were grateful to be alive and together it wasn't the most ideal situation all things considered. Parker had been pacing the tiled floor of the small area insistently during the day as we waited to figure out next move. She had been a little... off to say the least and I wanted nothing more than for her to open up to me about whatever was bothering her which, let's be honest, could be a million and one different combinations of things.
"I just wish they'd give us some sort of update." Parker stated crossing her arms over her chest as she stopped her pacing
I nodded in agreement and reached out to her "Me too but for now all we can do is wait."
She let out a sigh and took my hand before joining me on the small twin bed that took up about a third of the room. We laid back and she rested her head on my chest as I ran my fingers through her hair.
"What's so heavy on your mind Parker?" I questioned, my voice barely a whisper
A moment of silence passed before she spoke "I'm so used to be in control and overseeing everything but now, I feel like I don't know a thing. I mean we still don't know who did or didn't survive the attack on the tower, we have no idea where Aurora or Dean or Talia or whoever else is and we don't even know where we're going to be once they move us from here."
My heart constricted at the cracks in her voice, and I pulled her in closer whispering "I know and I hate that it has to be like this but we have to stay positive and just trust that they are doing everything they can to bring justice to all of it."
"Yeah I guess you're right." She mumbled out
~Present~
The warm spring air and scent of baked pastries surrounded me as I hurried down the street carrying a tray with four coffees and two bags containing croissants balanced on the carrier between them.
I turned the corner and nearly was taken out by a young kid on a bike that yelled back to me "Sorry!"
I let out a breathe and then continued on until I arrived at the front doors of Luminos, a three story brick building with a cute white and red awning out front.
I pushed the door open with my shoulder and smiled to the receptionist as I walked in and placed her coffee down on the desk "Good morning Anne."
"Good morning Hayden, thank you so much for the coffee dear." She smiled, the wrinkles on her face scrunched together slightly
