Once we had mostly recovered and gotten dressed we had decided it was inevitable to have to venture downstairs. Parker led the way through the dust covered halls of the cabin, on high alert with her hand on her gun as we started descend.
Why are most safe houses musty ass cabins in the woods?
Once on the main floor we cautiously entered the main room where everyone was scattered about talking amongst themselves.
"Any updates?" Parker questioned in Talia and Kayla's general direction
They both gave her timid nervous looks and shook their heads without a word being uttered.
"Surprised you didn't lose your voice with all that screaming." Aria stated, her arms and legs crossed as she sat straight in the wooden chair in the far corner
Parker gave her a sideways glance "Oh sorry, could you hear that? Yeah our bad things got pretty heated."
Parker wrapped her arm around my shoulders, her eyes never leaving Aria's.
Dangerous game this girl is playing. Does she remember nothing from earlier?
Aria shrugged, her posture loosening slightly "We need a plan so now that you two are done fucking like bunnies let's get to it."
One of the guards laughed lowly but stopped upon Parker glaring at him.
She turned back to Aria, "Any word from your dad?"
She shook her head and Parker let out a sigh low enough only I could hear, her arm muscles flexing slightly against my neck.
"Alright well clearly they're onto us so it's only a matter of time before we have to move again." Parker grumbled, removing her arm from my shoulders and pacing the floor
I could see the concern evident on her face and my heart sank upon seeing her so worried. Parker was always calm cool and collected so things must be bad if even she is this discouraged.
"What if we wanted them to find us?" I asked the room
Everyone gave me a strange look.
I sighed, "Think about it, they think we're trying to hide from them. If we flip the script on them and ambush them they'd never see it coming."
"So you're suggesting we do to them what they tried doing to us?" Parker questioned from behind me
I turned to face her and nodded "Yes exactly."
"So how would we bait them?" Talia asked the next most logical question
I gulped, "Me."
Parker immediately spoke out "No way, no how is that happening."
"Well it can't be you, they'd kill you on site. I'm the only guaranteed person they'd keep alive so they could flush you out." I argued back
She huffed, her eyes narrowed on me as the room fell silent.
"She's right Parker." Aria stared
Kayla nodded, "Yeah she is."
Talia then chimed in at great risk to herself "Look she's right, Sam has no idea who Aria or Kayla even are, I'm a dead woman walking if they see me, and so are you."
The room fell silent once more and Parker muttered something under her breath before stomping out of the room. I heard the slam of the front door and sighed as I turned to follow after her. I cautiously opened the door and spotted her sitting on the front steps with her head in her hands. I carefully closed the door and then silently went over and sat beside her. Quite a few moments passed us by in silence, the chirping of birds the only relief.
"I don't like this plan one bit." She mumbled out, her face still hidden from me
I reached over placing my hand on her thigh, "I know baby but it's realistically our best option."
She finally turned to look at me, tears staining her cheeks and brimming in her eyes.
"I couldn't live with myself if they, if they hurt you again. It was my fault before and no matter what you say I will blame myself if it happens again." She mumbled out in a shaky broken voice that shattered my heart to pieces
I pulled her into a tight hug and she sniffled into my shoulder.
"That's not going to happen Parker." I stated as I ran my fingers through her hair
She pulled back to look at me, the vulnerability in her eyes sending a shiver down my spine "You can't guarantee that and you know it. I know it sucked being something we're not but part of me wishes we'd just never left that suburban dystopia nightmare. Everything has gone to shit since I sabotaged our cover and I'm so so sorry."
I brushed away a stray tear with my thumb and shook my head feeling a tightness in my throat as I tried to hold back tears.
"Look I know things have been fucked and I haven't helped make it any easier but we're going to make it through this and be able to have our own real happy ending together. I don't regret leaving that fake life behind because I'd rather be on the run fighting criminals with you than pretending you're someone else, than pretending we're something else." I said, smiling as I felt a tear break free and stream down my cheek "I love you Parker and our love might be messy and dangerous but it's real. I'll take that over anything any day."
"I love you, and me too." She mumbled as she pulled me back into a tight hug
We sat like that for minutes or hours or days as time faded away and left just us in our own impenetrable void. I felt safe in her arms as though nothing could ever hurt us if we stayed just like that. Unfortunately time can only stand still so long.
Parker pulled back and wiped her eyes before standing and extending her hand to me "Let's go figure out how we're going to finally put an end to this."
I took her hand and she pulled me up to stand before her. She leaned in and placed a short sweet kiss against my lips before pulling back and resting her forehead against mine.
"Let's do what we do best and kick some ass." I stated with a grin
She smiled and rolled her eyes, "You escape one hostage situation, take over control and you suddenly think you're a professional bad ass."
"I am." I smirked confidently before turning to go inside, swaying my hips as I went
I turned around and caught her staring directly at my ass.
"You coming?" I teased
She nodded and laughed "Yeah let's kick some ass."
