A/N : ig this is all happening in like 2016 or something-

"Hi." He said.

"Hey." You answered.

These were the first words you two exchanged when you met while you were working at a diner. Pretty simple and casual, but they stuck around for years of relationship. At your first date, and at every other date you had after that, when you would go on set to see him, when you would wake up next to each other, and when you saw each other after a whole day of work.
He was never embarrassed about you or your job at the diner.

"Hi." He said.

"Hey." You answered.

These words started a normal day. Waking up together. Eating breakfast together. A normal day. A normal day that ended up being the worst day ever. It was only breakfast when...

"So what ? You don't love me anymore ? Is that it ?" You had screamed angrily.

"What the fuck Y/N this isn't what I meant I just said that you can't always be with me. I'm simply going on a trip for work and I don't want you to come with me." He tried to say calmly.

"We always go together, this isn't even a week or two, Joe this is for months. Months !" You sighed.
"Why can't I go with you ?"

"I don't want you to !"

"Why ?" You shouted.

"I need space Y/N, alright ?! I'm tired of spending every minute with you !"

"So you're gonna take a break of 7 months ? Seriously Joe ?"

He took a long pause.
He then took his face in his hands.

"....maybe I don't need a break."

You stared at him.

"Maybe I just need this to be over."

"What ?" You whispered.

"This, Y/N ! You and me !" His voice cracked. "I think we should break up."

It was like your breath had been taken away. Tears were forming in your eyes.

"But Joe-" you tried to step towards him.

He took a step back.

"No, I'm leaving in a few days, I'm gonna take my things and leave before tonight to go to a hotel. I'm sorry."

And he went to the bedroom to pack his stuff, leaving you alone in the kitchen, breaking down.

A few days later, he left the country and went to England for his job.

You spent your days crying, locked up in your house, until you had to go to work again.
A whole month had passed and you were still miserable. Which was understandable, you and Joe had always been described as the perfect couple. You were literally perfect for each other.

6 months later.

"Richard, the booth seven is starting to complain, are you almost finished with their food ?" You asked the guy in the kitchen.

"Yeah yeah just a few more minutes I just need to finish their burgers !" He replied.

"Alright then." You spoke before leaving to serve the booth 4.

You put down the plate on the table and gave the customers a big smile.

"Hope you enjoy your food !"

They all thanked you as you heard a bell ring meaning that booth 7's meal was ready to be served.
You made your way to the kitchen, took the plates and hurried to the table waiting.

As you were giving them their food, the door of the diner opened and closed behind you.

You smiled at the group of people just like you did with the ones before.

"Hope you enjoy your food !"

Someone tapped your shoulder softly.
You turned around and your eyes widened.

"Hi." He hesitated.

Without really thinking about it, you blurted out a simple "Hey."

A simple word that weirdly meant so much to both of you.
Then realization hit you.

"What are you doing here ?" You hurriedly asked.

"I...uh...I wanted to apologize."

You raised your eyebrows.

"I know it sounds dumb. But I acted dumb so...."

"I guess it fits the situation." You completed.

"Yeah...." he sighed, trying to avoid looking in your eyes.

He cleared his throat. "Anyways, I didn't really think about what I was saying or doing when, you know....we broke up."

It seemed like the last bit hurt him.
Why ? He was the one that broke up with you.

"I wanted space because I was afraid of my feelings, but then I completely freaked out and broke up, but I didn't want to, I regretted it for all these months." He looked into your eyes.

"Afraid of your feelings ?" You wondered.

"I was...I wanted to...I mean...I love you. So much. And after all this time you probably moved on, I know, but when I broke up it was because I was so scared I might fuck everything up."

"So you fucked everything up because you were scared you might do that. Smartass." You smirked.

He chuckled softly. "I know it's dumb but it's the truth. I panicked completely. I didn't know what to do."
He pulled out a small box out of his pocket.
"I wanted to....I wanted to propose." He smiled sadly. "But I wanted it to be so perfect that I started freaking out, and I got mad at you. I didn't want you to come on the trip with me to take some time to really think about how to do it."

You couldn't believe it.
He continued speaking.

"I also knew that we couldn't always be together because of work and I wanted to see if I could...you know..." he laughed. "Survive."

You nodded quietly.

"I missed you."

As you were about to reply, a voice called you.

"Y/N ! Please don't let our customers starve !"

"Shit, sorry Richard !" You shouted.

You turned to Joe, he was playing with the little box with a sad face to calm his nerves.

You exhaled and he looked at you.
You took a step closer to him, and took his face in your hands.
You slowly put your lips on his and gave him a small kiss.
You pulled away, your hands still on his cheeks.

"I missed you too, and I haven't moved on, I still love you, Joe. I forgive you if you promise you'll marry me."

He put his forehead against yours and smiled.

"Of course, Y/N Mazzello."

You kissed him again and left to go back to serving people as he just sat in a booth, watching you serve people the whole evening in awe. He'd sometimes stop you and point to his cheek to get a peck, or just smirk and say "Hi.", waiting for you to reply "Hey.".

It was exactly like before. Perfect.

A/N : Did we forgive him too fast orrr.....? IDK PLS TELL ME LMAO-
