، ₊˚ *.᭣᭫ᥫ᭡ :: ❛ 𝒘ant me to cheer
you up? ❜

you always knew what was on his mind.

when bakugou katsuki showed up at your house at three am, having jumped through the window into your room, you immediately knew what he was thinking.

anyone who knew him could this time, really. seeing midoriya izuku, the boy katsuki tried his whole life to crush, starting to grow into the wings katsuki had been clipping all their lives was starting to eat at him.

what if he wasn't the best? was he really hiding his fear of izuku surpassing him by trying to crush him before he had a chance?

you looked up from your position at your desk. since katsuki had dragged you to apply to u.a. highschool with him (when you tried to protest, he snapped "if i'm going to be the best, you'll be second best. no fucking complaints, got it?") you were there to witness the dumbfounded look on katsuki's face when his green haired enemy showed up at the entrance exams. you were there to discreetly tug the bottom of his shirt, grounding him so he didn't blow up the desk he was fuming at.

"don't ask." katsuki grumbled, as he belly flopped onto your bed.

"want me to cheer you up?" you asked him. shutting the book you were reading. it was pointless to sleep when you knew he would make his appearance in the late hours of the night.

"i'm not sad." even though his head was under the pile of pillows on your bed, you knew he was rolling his eyes at you.

you always asked him that same question, and he always responded with that same answer. you both knew it was a lie, but katsuki would never admit it.

"right. you don't do sad, yeah yeah blondie. scooch." you sighed, standing up from your seat to poke his prone form on your bed. "now that you're here, i can sleep."

he rolled over to make space for you, looking surprised. "you're not going to ask?"

you shrugged. "i already know."

you sat down on your bed, switching off the lamp next to it and laying above the covers. something about the room was different, and you felt warmer than usual. katsuki seemed off as well, you noticed. he sat up after a couple tosses and turns, before looking over at you.

"i can't sleep. let's go." he seemed to come to a decision, and hopped off the bed. opening your closet, he tossed you a sweater before opening the window and jumping down.

you followed, albeit clumsily. you didn't care much for the noise. to attend u.a., you had moved in with your aunt, since your family lived in hosu. your aunt was more than familiar with katsuki, and you were sure she wouldn't mind you leaving as long as he was with you.

the two of you began the familiar trek to the park. the neighborhood you lived in wasn't exactly the safest, and traveling through at night as a teenager would usually end in some kind of trouble. but since katsuki was accompanying you tonight, your heart was at ease.

you let out a sigh, sitting down on the right side of the double slide and stretching. katsuki took the left, laying back to look up at the night sky. you did the same, arms tucked under your head.

the silence enveloped the two of you like a warm blanket. it was a comfortable silence, but you didn't dare break it, knowing that if you waited long enough, he would spit out what he wanted to say. surely enough, a second later, katsuki spoke.

"what the fuck is that shitty deku's problem?" katsuki sat up. "thus whole time he had a quirk? did that bastard enjoy fucking with me this whole time?" he scoffed. "number one hero? what a fucking joke. first place is mine. quirk or not, i'm still going to kill anyone dumbass who gets in my way." he looked down at you, only to see your gaze already trained on him, a soft smile on your face.

he rubbed his palms along the fabric of his pants, looking away from you. "the hell are you lookin at?" he mumbled under his breath. your smile grew, and you bit your lip to keep from grinning. his hands began to sweat when he was flustered, and the fact that you made him flustered made you feel strangely good.

"do you feel better?" your gaze was trained on his back, waiting for him to turn around.

he scratched the nape of his neck. "i wasn't fucking sad."

you yawned, standing up. "is that so?" you extended a hand to him. "let's go then, i'm tired and it's cold."

he didn't grab your hand, but stood up himself. you smiled to yourself, letting your hand move closer to his as the two of you walked until he flinched at the contact.

"goddammit woman, why are your hands so cold?" he griped, taking your left hand and encapsulating it with his larger, warmer one.

"thanks, katsuki." you squeezed your hand around his.

"fuck off." you knew he wasn't really angry, but he squeezed your hand back to make sure you didn't let go anyway.
