the rift between the two of you feels all the more severe when you wake up at your desk the next morning, alone in your room.

your return to reality comes with your head slamming into your keyboard. you flinch, eyes opening to see the cover of the book you were reading the night before covered in drool. you swipe at it with your sleeve, slipping the shirt off to toss it in your hamper. the clock on your nightstand showed that you had fifteen minutes before classes began, and you sighed.

you had waited for katsuki to arrive the way he always did, and now that morning has come and you were still alone made it all the more real that he was angry at you.

when you arrive at school in a rather haphazardly fashion, uniform untucked, hair out of place and shoes barely on, your classmates send you looks, not used to seeing you look this disheveled (you have to ask momo to tie your hair back for you, and the raven haired girl jumps at the chance to give someone a yaomomo ponytail) but you ignore them all.

in the beginning of the lunch break between classes, your group of friends is silent until kirishima speaks up first. "your hair looks nice. don't you think, bakugo?" he nudges the blonde sitting next to him with his elbow.

for the first time all day, katsuki drags his gaze to you. you await his response with bated breath, not daring to meet his eyes so you focus on the hand he has placed on his knee. you refuse to look at him, but when he says nothing your curiosity gets the better of you and your eyes travel upwards to meet his. he then stands abruptly, breaking the eye contact you had just dared to create, and exits the cafeteria without responding to kirishima's words.

your remaining friends turn to you for an explanation, but you're already up out of your seat, jogging after him.

"katsuki!" you caught him in the hallway outside the cafeteria, and the two of you are alone.

he looks back at you. "what?"

"youre angry at me." you tell him. "look, can we just pretend that didnt happen? i'm sorry."

"pretend it didn't happen," he echoes, and the look on his face is enough to tell you his anger has only increased.

"no!" you blurt out quickly. "not forget, uh..." you sigh. "i just don't want things to be weird between us anymore! i can't figure out what you're thinking, and i don't know how to fix this. can you tell me what's wrong?" you fidget with the cuffs of your uniform, twiddling a button between your fingers nervously.

he's silent for a while. "fine."

"fine what?"

"we're good." he starts walking again, and you follow. the look on his face when you sneak a glance doesn't reassure you. his eyes glimmer with a sadness that betrays the collected exterior he has out. he tilts his head to the side when he notices you looking.

"see something you like?" he smirks when you duck your head in embarrassment.

"shut it blondie." you mutter, digging your elbow into his side.

a chuckle bubbles out of his mouth as the two of you enter the cafeteria again and take your seats, and somehow, you feel like everything is the same again.
