Heartstrings

What does it feel like, to awake beneath a dying twilight,

To be impaled by the icy wind, as it sends a million snowflakes

Aflutter, afloat, like a bevy of ivory doves, like dreams in flight,

Lulling me back to sleep, washing away my heartaches

Pulsating, blurring the image of those midnight memories,

Your eyes rippling with tears, cascading like summer rain, pattering

Against my cheeks, collecting in the cradle of my reveries,

Overbrimming with tearstained pages lying forgotten, yellowing

What does it mean, to be rocked to and fro by a gentle sea,

To billow with the ocean waves, as they voice their desires to be set

Aflame, ablaze, like a raging inferno, like wildfires burning free,

Scorching away my troubles, but I'd forgotten what bliss begets

Echoing, whispering each bittersweet melody, every verse

Fading , coalescing with your mellow harmonies, every breath

Misting the once-crystalline windows into my mind, it hurts,

To tremble alongside each chord, heartstrings severed by death

Fragments of a broken euphoria flickering like candle flame,

A warm incandescence frames your rosy cheeks, your glistening

Eyes, melting into our dancing shadows, our silhouettes untamed,

Lamenting over your crumbling world, crying even as I'm listening

Canvases of an unpainted dream aching for strokes of colour,

Your childlike ideals of azure skies and emerald meadows,

They envelope my sleeping figure as I curl up, and I wonder,

If you had drawn these blades of grass to tickle my toes

What does it feel like, to wish upon a shooting star,

To gaze at its fiery trail, as it ignites a million sparks

Alight, aglow, like a sparkle of fireflies, blessings from afar,

As our hands intertwine, interlace, brilliant even in the dark.
