Pain.

It was all I could feel coming from my stomach.

There was a panicked touch gripping my face and body as the pain began taking over.

I couldn't tell who was holding me, only able to see a red string tying me to the person. Their face was blurred out and their voice blended into the background. There were other voices shouting for me, but every little sound blended into one.

A loud cry from the person holding me invaded my ears as they yelled for me.

What's happening?

Where am I?

Why am I in so much pain?

My body grew limp as I heard one last final cry of my name, just barely recognizing the voice to be Hoody's.

I shot up, breathing deeply as I grabbed my phone. I flinched at the high brightness, quickly turning it all the way down before checking the time. It was barely four in the morning.

Groaning, I went through all of my other notifications before seeing a simple text from Hunter that he sent directly at four.

'Meet me behind our dorm's building. I wanna talk about earlier.'

Against my better judgment of just staying in bed, I got up. After slipping some shoes on and a jacket, I grabbed my phone and headed out. I sent a quick text to Hoody asking if he was watching me, to which he responded with a simple yes.

It gave me a strange sense of comfort knowing he was watching me.

As soon as I turned the corner, I saw Hunter leaning up against the wall, playing with something in his hands. Once I got closer, I could see the sharp blade of a knife glinting against what little light there was. I stopped, not wanting to get closer.

"Hello, Star." His voice was haunting as it slightly echoed. He looked at me with a wide grin on his face and a crazed look in his eyes. "Come closer, my dear."

I took a few cautious steps in his direction, glancing back toward the forest. If need be, I would either run into there or back into my dorm's building. There was no way I trusted him now. "Hello."

Before I could move, he launched himself at me and pinned me to the brick wall. His hand shot up and the sharp blade of the pocket knife was pressed against my neck.

The click of a gun was heard and I let out a small breath of relief. Hunter looked at where the sound came from and chuckled. "Hoody, is it? Masky has told me all about you. He even hired me to try and kill you!"

"Let her go." Hoody demanded in a steady voice, keeping an even hold on his gun.

Hunter pretended to consider it before giggling. "How about no? You shoot me, I slice her neck and go after you if I can still stand."

Another voice interrupted the conversation, making my eyes widen. "Hunter, he said let her go, so I'd let her go." Looking the opposite way of Hoody, I confirmed for a fact that Cameron had joined our conversation. "Masky isn't going to like it if you get yourself killed before you can kill him. Plus, it's not like he even wanted you to kill either of them. He just wanted you to weaken him and leave the rest up to either Masky himself or something else."

Hunter looked surprised as he turned his head away from Hoody. "How the hell did you hear about that conversation?"

"I wasn't asleep when Masky broke into our dorm, but was actually trying to fall asleep."

This is a whole ass drama happening in front of my eyes, but I'm the main character. I glanced toward Hoody just in time to see him drag a knife across the outside of Hunter's wrist, which made him drop the knife and stumble back. Hoody nodded to Cameron before picking me up and carrying me away from the scene.

He sighed and set me on my feet once we reached the entrance to the building. He pulled off his mask and stuffed it in his hoodie pocket. He made my face not look toward him, once again not giving me enough time to see what he looked like. I pouted as he pulled me close, wrapping an arm around my shoulders as he walked in.

Hoody walked me to my dorm and immediately turned back around once we reached my dorm. I watched him walk away; his hair was short and either dirty blond or light brown, and his skin was pale, but I sadly couldn't see anything else.

When I walked in, I was met with a frantic Katie pacing around the room. She saw me and bolted over to envelope me in a bear hug, obviously relieved to see me. "Cameron just called. Are you okay? Did Hunter hurt you at all?"

"I'm fine. Hoody was there to help me before Cameron got there." I quickly reassured her, not wanting her to worry. She calmed down as she glanced over me.

"No more going out in the middle of the night."

"Darn. I've been banned from doing my favorite activity." I joked, making her giggle as she released me.

Katie pushed me onto my bed and walked back over to hers. "Get some sleep. You have three classes tomorrow."

"Oh shit!" I quickly made sure my alarm was set for seven and got in my bed properly after kicking off my shoes and ripping off my socks. It took a minute for me to get comfortable before a question came to mind. "Hey, Katie?"

"Hm?"

"Do you get soulmate dreams?"

"Yeah. You usually start getting them after you meet your soulmate."

"Are your dreams good dreams or bad dreams?"

"I have good ones. Why?"

"All of mine end with death."

"How old are you when you die?"

"I'd say fairly young. Around the age I'm at right now, actually."

"Do you know anything about what soulmate dreams mean?"

"Hoody once said something about them, but I don't remember what he said at the moment."

"He probably said something about the fact that they are events that predict the future, which means you'll likely die early in your life if you're around the age you're at right now. Does Hoody die in them as well?"

"Yeah, he does."

"Have any of them been a good dream?"

"There was one, but that turned into a nightmare because Hoody died and then I died while we were just trying to eat dinner."

Katie paused and I could hear her voice waver from her bed across the room. "I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"The fact you don't get to live out a full life."

"There's no need to be sorry. We're all gonna die sooner or later. Do you and Carrie get to grow old together?"

"Yeah, we do."

"Good. Let's go back to sleep now, okay?"

"Okay."

"Good night, Kate."

"Good night, (N/n)."
