today was a gloomy day.
you watch as the raindrops fall and splash on the stone path before you, as you lean on the wide and cold glass inside your lonely bedroom. the rain was emitting a calming sound when it hit your roof, helping to ease your nerves for the upcoming events.
you were about to visit your sickly grandmother that was on her deathbed. you didn't wanna watch her on her last moments as you were sensitive to occurrences like these, but your parents, who were already in your grandmother's property waiting for you, insisted on your presence. your grandmother was an odd, odd woman. whenever you would visit her as a child, she would always cook foods you hated, with no explanation whatsoever. "you'll understand when you get older." was what she would always tell you, though even now you were still as confused. you also remembered how she would shield you from trouble, lying for you so you could avoid your parents' scolding.
nevertheless, despite her odd behaviour, she was also really sweet and bright. she's done a lot of things for you and she had a major impact on your life, her favourite line of advice she always told you was; "don't be afraid to speak up for yourself, my child. do not aimlessly follow your parents' beliefs and wishes. be yourself, decide for yourself. go to where your passion leads you." probably because she found you were a fairly peculiar child-- unlike any other.
you sigh as you decided to stop reminiscing and finally get your shit together and get ready for the long walk from your house to your grandmother's. you took a clear umbrella with you, as the rain was getting more and more intense by the second.
you grab your already packed backpack and slide it into your shoulders before opening your door with the umbrella to shield you from the cold rain. you lock up your house and head to the direction of your grandmother's.
the walk there was just under an hour if you remember correctly, you lived in a very quiet and isolated part of your country, little to no public transportation at all. you also didn't like driving-- it made you anxious. but that's okay, you quite enjoyed walking. the rain had stopped but the wind was howling, followed with your shoes clicking on the stone sidewalk.
but perhaps you made a wrong turn, because the once stone flooring became a rocky cobblestone without you knowing of it. where the hell did you go?
as you take a look around, you realized that you were in the one part of town that everyone told you to avoid. the one part of town that everyone was afraid of. you never really knew why, but it was rumoured to hold evil and dark people, or, to put it more obviously, satanists. you never really feared them though, you actually thought the people who did were foolish. they were just different, is all. i see nothing wrong with that. you had even developed a slight liking to them because your grandmother tought you a lot about them since your childhood.
there were old victorian, almost gothic, buildings and houses lined up next and across from eachother with overgrown bushes and trees, dim street lamps here and there.
you've always wanted to go here, but your parents forbid you to. but they're not here to stop you now, aren't they?
the streets were empty as you started walking down the sidewalk once again, there were no people at all. crows were flying around, landing on top of houses and lamps. you adored those little critters, but you thought that it was time to go back.
you were about to turn and leave before you heard a church bell chime. isn't it a friday? oh, but they weren't christians like you, you remembered.
it wouldn't be bad to go, right? just a little peek? one peek wouldn't hurt.
