"I hope you do like it Eddie." I said, turning to look at him. He was smiling at the screen.
"It seems like my kind of movie." He said, laughing. I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not, so I didn't reply. After what felt like an eternity of holding my breath, I felt him relax a little next to me. His arm was still around my shoulders but I wasn't leaning as heavily on his arm, which meant it was finally safe to breathe again.

I tried to focus my attention on the movie, but my eyes kept wandering around the living room of the trailer. The guitar magazines and dirty dishes. Every single thing in it made it feel homely. It was a crazy combination of comforting and completely alien, and I wasn't sure what to think of it.

I could hear gentle snoring coming from behind me , which made me turn slightly. Eddie was fast asleep, his head thrown back on the sofa and his long curly hair trailing over my shoulder. I'd never seen him so quiet or peaceful. I felt guilty for leaving him in such an uncomfortable position, but he can't have been that uncomfortable if he'd managed to fall asleep mid movie. I wasn't even offended that he'd fallen asleep during my favorite movie, he looked so peaceful. Overcome my temptation, I brushed my fingers against a strand of his hair that was resting on my shoulder. I'd wanted to do that since I first saw his hair.

I was almost drifting off to sleep when a thought occurred to me. I had to be home by ten. I jerked upright, checking my watch. It was nearly eleven. Eddie woke up, gazing around sleepily, a confused expression on his face. "Y/N, are you okay?" He asked, his words slurred by tiredness.
"I have to go." I said, grabbing my backpack and running out of the door.
"Y/N, wait! It's dark outside! He yelled, running after me." I was too embarrassed to turn around, so I kept jogging towards the line of trees at the edge of the trailer park.
"Y/N! It's not safe." He said as he caught up to me, grabbing my elbow. I shook him off and kept going. "I'm walking you home whether you like it or not." I shrugged, not slowing down my pace.
"My mom is going to kill me."
"She won't, right?" He asked, concern on his face.
"Not literally, moron." I rolled my eyes.

We reached my house in under ten minutes, sweat pouring down my brow despite the coldness of the October air. "Thanks for walking me home." I said as we reached the gate leading up to my house.
"You're welcome, sweetheart." He said, leaning closer to my face.
"Eddie, my mom might see." I whispered, but his lips were so close to mine. I reached down and squeezed his hand gently. "I'll see you at school."
"Will I see you before Monday?" He asked, "If I have to wait all weekend to see you again I don't think I'll cope."
"You'll manage." I said, standing on my tip-toes and kissing his cheek before running up the path and shutting the door behind me.

"What was that Munson boy doing talking to you?" My mom said as soon as I shut the door. "And why are you almost an hour late?"
"Mom, Eddie is the new friend I was telling you about! And he kind of fell asleep during the movie and we lost track-"
"You were at Eddie Munson's house?" My mom asked, raising her voice. "That boy is trouble, Y/N! You're to stay away from him at all costs."
"Mom, how do you know him?" I asked, trying to think of a reason I could use to defend him. But then it hit me: maybe my mom was right. He was charismatic and funny, but what did I really know about him?
"You forget that I grew up in this town, Y/N. I lived here for sixteen years. I went to school with a Munson boy, and the talk I've heard among some of my friends in this town proves they haven't changed any."
"What kind of talk, Mom?" I asked, remembering the smell of weed when I entered his apartment, the way he skipped school all the time and the fact that Mike and Dustin never seemed to know where he was. Maybe he wasn't a good person.
"It doesn't matter, Y/N. You're grounded, and I don't want you speaking to him again, am I understood?" I nodded dubiously, fighting back tears of exhaustion. I went to my room, closing my door behind me before sinking onto my bed tiredly, too fatigued to even take off my shoes before I fell fast asleep.
