Ever since Eddie told me he loved me, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I hadn't seen him since he walked me home after school, and Max and I were lying on my bed, supposedly doing homework. I doodled tiny hearts in the corner of my science textbook, writing Eddie's name and scribbling it out like Max did on her notebook.
"I still can't believe he said he loved you!" Max said, giggling. "And you said it back!"
"I know! It was literally crazy. I can't stop thinking about it." I said, scribbling out all the doodles in case my teacher saw them.
"Do you think he'll show up tonight?" Max asked, pointing her head at the window, which was open and slightly ajar.
"I don't know. I've seen him today, so he might not bother." I mumbled.
"You want him to really, don't you?" Max teased, making me smile. I fought back the happiness, trying, as usual, to be as pessimistic as possible.
"I don't care. He can show up if he wants."
"Don't you remember what I said earlier?" I looked at her. "Don't be stupid like me and hide your feelings from everyone. It doesn't really solve anything, in my experience." I smiled. Max always gave the best advice, even when I didn't really want to listen.

"Fine. I do really want him to show up." I giggled. Max shot me a knowing look and pretended to go back to her homework.
"Y/N!" My mom called from downstairs.
"What, Mom?" I shouted back. I heard hurried footsteps coming up the stairs and my door opened.
"There's someone here to see you." She said, her face excited.
"Okay?" I said, confused at the shining look in her eyes. "What's the big deal?"
"Go see for yourself." She said, winking at me and Max. I rolled my eyes and walked downstairs. Eddie was standing in the doorway of my house.

"Eddie!" I shouted, running towards him. He was holding a slightly wilted bunch of flowers, and his shirt looked almost clean. He'd clearly made an effort. He handed me the flowers.
"For you, my love." He said, kissing me on the cheek. My mom and Max were standing behind us in the hall, smiling knowingly at each other.
"I came to ask if I could take Y/N on a date?" Eddie asked, straightening his hair. My mom smiled sweetly. I felt overcome with happiness, and the look on my Mom's face made it even better.
"Of course, please have her home by 10:30." My Mom said, smiling. Max winked at me. So that's why she asked me to try on my new outfit and convinced me not to take it off yet. I thought to myself.

He held out his hand and I took it, waving goodbye to Max and my Mom. "So what's your plan, Mr. Munson?" I asked him, giggling. He led me to a black convertible that he must have borrowed from someone, holding the door open for me as I climbed in. "First stop, movies." He said, winking at me. "Since you love the Goonies, I saw the poster for this movie and figured you'd love it. And I promise not to fall asleep this time." He said which made me laugh uncontrollably. "I want to make you laugh like that all the time."

After we left the movie theatre, he steered me towards the nearest Pizza place. "How long have you been planning all this?" I asked, smiling at him over our Pizza.
"Since we watched the Goonies together." He said with a smile. His eyes were shining like a child at a Christmas party.
"That long?" I laughed at how cute he was. He took the last slice of pizza, splitting it in half and handing me one half. "Thanks." I said, smiling. He winked at me and held out his hands. He took my hand in his and turned it over to check the time.
"It's ten o clock." He said, smiling sadly. "We can drive home and sit in my car for a bit if you want? I don't want you to be late." He said with a chuckle. I nodded sadly and followed him back to the car.
"I don't want to ever leave you." I said, resting my head on his shoulder.
"You'll see me tomorrow. And the day after that. And every day for the rest of our lives."

By the time we reached my house I was shivering in the cold. He took off his jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders even though it was in the minus temperatures. I snuggled into it, letting the smell of cigarettes envelop me, though it occurred to me that I'd never actually seen him smoke. "You smoke, right?" I asked him quizzically.
"Put your hand in the right pocket." He said with a smile. My fingers brushed against a cigarette packet.
"I've never seen you smoke." I said, laughing.
"I felt awkward smoking around you. I didn't want it to tarnish your opinion of me." I sniggered.
"As if anything could do that." I joked. He laughed and kissed my cheek.
"Good to know."

At 10:25 he walked me to my door and saw me in, waving to my mom before driving off into the night. "I love you." He whispered as I walked through the door.
"I love you too." I said as he turned to walk away. I could hear the smile in his voice when he said goodbye.
"How was it, Y/N?" My mom asked from the sofa, watching me standing at the window until I couldn't see him anymore.
"It was amazing. I love him, Mom." I said, sitting down next to her.
"I heard." She said, laughing. "You know I had a very low opinion of that boy." My heart sank a little. I didn't want her to say anything that would ruin the mood I was in. "But tonight has proven to me that he clearly isn't what I thought he was."
"Really?"
"I saw the way he looked at you. How gentle he is around you." My Mom said softly, stroking my hand. "The way he said he loved you." The look in her eyes was almost sad, but she seemed to shake herself off.
"I'm glad you like him, Mom."
