Grounded

When I woke up the next morning, memories of the previous night came flooding back, and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed at my actions. I lay back on my bed, tears forming in my eyes. Regret was overflowing in my chest: I might never get to see Eddie again, and the last time I saw him I ran away from him. I realized I didn't have any way to contact him to apologize either, which I figured was for the better anyway. A soft knock sounded on my door, and I hastily wiped my tears away as my mom came in. "There's some friends here to see you. I told them you were grounded but they can still come and see you for a while. They're waiting downstairs." My mom's face softened when she saw my tear- stained face.
"Did that Munson boy do something to you?" She asked, sitting down on the bed next to me.
"No Mom, he didn't. I just feel stupid."
"Why, sweetheart?" She asked, a sympathetic smile on her face.
"I think I liked him, and I feel stupid for trusting him if what you said is true."
"I'm sorry for overreacting. I was just trying to protect you, but I had no right to say what I did. Of course people can change, and I might be wrong about him. I just want you to be careful."
"I will be Mom, I promise."
"I'll send your friends up, I'm sure they'll be able to help you feel better.

"Hey, Y/N, I hear youre grounded." Lucas said, sitting down in my armchair. Mike and Lucas sat on the floor, and Max sat next to me on the bed, wrapping me in a comforting hug.
"Yeah I'm grounded." I said, wiping my eyes. "I went to Eddie's to watch a movie last night, and I forgot what time it was. I was an hour late." I felt ashamed to admit it to my friends, even though I'd done nothing wrong.
"What movie did you watch?" Max asked, her eyes lighting up at the mention of movies.
"The Goonies. It's my favorite."
"I love that movie!" Max said, high- fiving me. Mike rolled his eyes dramatically. He clearly didn't approve of me and Eddie.

"How was it?" Max asked excitedly. "You have to tell me everything."
"Pretend we aren't here." Dustin said generously. I grinned awkwardly, glancing at Lucas and Mike who were both staring right at me.
"Yeah, come on Y/N, we wanna know." Mike said mockingly.
"Why do you care all of a sudden? I thought you couldn't care less about Eddie's love life?"
"Well, I don't. But I've never seen him like I saw him yesterday, he seemed entranced by you." Mike admitted. "Anyway, jokes aside, we'll leave you to it."
"Wait, before you guys leave, can you pass a message on to Eddie?" I asked, grabbing a scrap of paper and a pencil and scribbling a quick note to him. I passed it to Dustin. "Please?"
"Yeah of course, Y/N, we'll go find him and give this to him." Dustin said. They waved goodbye and left, Mike closing the door as they left. I sighed, instantly regretting writing the words on the paper. But I knew it was the right thing to do.

I tried to cast it out of my mind, focusing on recounting the events of the previous night to Max. "That's crazy that he fell asleep on you. Must be a first for Eddie." She said, grinning.
"What do you mean?"
"Well he's so full of energy, I'm surprised he let his guard down around you that much." I smiled widely.
"Really?"
"Yeah, he doesn't trust many people. Consider yourself lucky. Do you mind if I ask what you wrote on the note to him?" Max asked curiously.
"Sure. I just said that I was sorry for how it ended last night and that I'll see him at school to return his shirt, since I forgot to give it back after Hellfire." I said, gesturing down at myself still wearing his crumpled t- shirt.
"Are you really sure you want to give it back? I certainly wouldn't!" Max giggled.
"You're right, I definitely don't want to, but I can't keep it forever!" I said, chuckling. Max always figured out a way to cheer me up.
"We saw Robin in the video store too, but Steve wasn't around. I kind of thought they were like, conjoined twins or something." I said, laughing.
"Yeah, they always seem to be within a five meter radius of each other." Max agreed, "Except when Vickie from band is around." Max said with a wink.
"I don't blame her, Vickie is really pretty." I said, smiling. The whole Eddie situation didn't seem as bad now, and I felt better about the note I sent, too.
"I hope Dustin found Eddie." I said, lost in thought.
"Girl, stop thinking about it. Come on, lets put some music on, you look like you could use a good sing."
