MARA BLAKE had just arrived at a new house. One far away from her home town. No city, no beach. Hawkins, Indiana was boring.

The sun had rose bright and early, resulting in the girl being very cranky. Her face held a look of peace and beauty, while her eyes held tiredness and anger. She was in no mood to meet another family who would just give her up in a couple of weeks.

The Sinclair household was very talkative around the time Mara had arrived. Both Mrs. and Mr. Sinclair had been happy to welcome Mara to their household. Lucas and Erica Sinclair were a little skeptical and it was very obvious. Both were unusually silent, but asked a lot of questions when they did speak up.

Mara had felt more welcome than she had with other homes. It was weird for her, she somehow felt like she could open up a bit more to the family than others. But, she chose to ignore this feeling, and be as polite as possible. If it was possible, considering her mood from waking up so early.

The Sinclair family and Mara were currently sitting at the dining table eating. Mara sat silent, while the Sinclair's spoke happily amongst themselves. She noticed Lucas looking over to her every few minutes, not that he knew. Erica's witty comments making the girl laugh every minute or so.

"So, Mara, how are you liking Hawkins so far?"

Mara looked up from her plate with pursed lips. She made eye contact with the eldest female of the house before answering the woman's questions.

"Um, it's okay, I guess. Seems a bit boring compared to California." She admitted

Mara received a smile from both of the parents as if they were satisfied with her answer.

"Oh, there's plenty to do here, don't worry. After your first day of school tomorrow, I can have Lucas show you around a bit, if you'd like." The oldest male spoke this time. Mara looked over to Lucas before looking back to Mr. Sinclair. "Um, he really doesn't have to if he doesn't want to. It's completely up to him." He looked at the teen with yet another smile before looking over to Lucas. "Oh, he will, won't you, Lucas?" He gave the boy a look while widening his eyes a bit.

Lucas sighed in frustration. "Fine, but we already have plans to go to the arcade. And I am not canceling." He spoke the last sentence a bit slower than the one before to make himself clear. Mara's lips slightly turned up a bit in amusement at his commitment to an arcade date with his friends. "Yes, sir." Mara spoke while putting her hands up as if she were surrendering. Lucas' lips formed a small smile, as well as the rest of the family's. Mara noted that as an achievement of some sort.

Dinner had continued a bit longer. Mara had joined in some of their conversations every once in a while, easing up to the family a bit.
