at some point in time, you had it.

it's exhilarating, you thought.
as the love flowed in your veins
making your heart race
and your soul speak.
it electrified you
intoxicated you
made you feel so alive
that it had you wanting to live

it's devastating, you thought.
as your love came with so much fear
so much grief
and so much anger
you held on to it
not minding the scars it would leave
because being wounded is better
than not being able to love at all

but more than that,
you had it.

and you thought it was bewildering
that you only stared from afar
waiting, wanting
the perfect time
the perfect moment
where the world would finally stop
and you'd be able to hold love by the hand
welcome it home and embrace it

it came and it went
and you miss it
you miss it longer than you had it
because the love is there
the love remained,
unchanging, ever-constant
still exhilarating and devastating
as love had always been
yet still, you couldn't have it.
