"Love." Nik stated as he followed Lexi into the soon-to-be-nursery. Lexi hummed in acknowledgement as he closed the door behind himself. "What's going on in that beautiful head of yours?" He asked as he wrapped his arms around her waist. A sharp exhale left Lexi's lips as she tried to relax her back against Nik's chest.

"Nothing I want to talk about." Lexi mumbled, knowing that this was most likely the first of many attempts from her mates to get her to talk to them about what was bothering her.

"Don't do that." Nik said, "Don't keep bottling up everything that's hurting you because you think you are strong enough to handle it."

I'm not emotionally prepared for this.

"I certainly don't doubt you are strong enough to handle whatever it is on your mind, but I do know, that they are some, more fragile people, who can't handle it." Nik continued as he traced her stomach, knowing that the implication if her hurting the baby with her worries would encourage her to open up.

"Do you genuinely think I'll be a good mother?" Lexi asked as she moved out his arms, "Not counting what the mate bond and your inner animal make you think."

"You know that you will be a good mother." Nik reasoned.

"Do I know that?" Lexi honestly questioned. "I am a 22 year old with no maternal instincts who is a borderline alcoholic and is pregnant, with girl, who was an accident." She deadpanned as she sat down on the lounge in the nursey. "It's nothing I haven't seen before." She muttered, stopping Nik from speaking before diverting her eyes from him.

"I'm not following." Nik stated as he sat down next to her and pulled her legs onto his lap.

"My mother. This is exactly what happened to my mother." Lexi muttered as she began to nervously scratch off the cracked nail polish on her nails. "I'm turning into my fucking mother." Lexi whispered, her voice cracking painfully as her eyes darted around the room which was flooded with the idea of her unborn baby whilst she tried to focus on anything other than Nik in that moment.

"Don't-'" Nik started but was cut off by Lexi.

"Hey at least liver cancer killed her 13 years later." Lexi continued, cutting Nik off whilst she ran one of her hands through her hair as she bordered on a panic attack. "Once she became a raging alcoholic and abused her daughter half to death." Lexi muttered to herself.

"Love" Nik said as he moved his hand up to rest on her thigh whilst he tried to stop her from panicking, "You need to breathe."

"I can't do this, Nik." Lexi said during a breath, "I thought I could but I really can't."

Fucking mommy issues.

Despite not saying anything in that moment, Nik reacted perfectly. He silently moved Lexi's legs off his lap and pulled her towards him. Ignoring Lexi's many attempts to push him away, verbally and physically, Nik only tightened his arms around her, his jaw resting on top of her head whilst they lay in the least awkward position you can lay in whilst pregnant. After a solid few minutes of Lexi rejecting Nik's wordless affection, she slowly relaxed her tensed muscles under his hold.

Once Lexi let down the wall which was previously refusing Nik's gesture, it didn't take long for her to bury her face deep into his chest as she tried everything to dismiss the thoughts which illustrated her turning into her mother.

"You" Nik stated slowly against her ear once Lexi calmed down, "are not her."

That was all it took. Every tear Lexi had been holding back since the first thought of her mother, every thought of how she was going to unintentionally make her child's childhood like her own, every sleepless night dreading the idea of meeting the child whose life she was going to ruin, every moment spent thinking back to the mistakes her mother made that she swore to not replicate and every silent breath which was held as the talk about her nearing due date grew came out in pained sobs against Nik's chest.

Nik could only hold Lexi closer as he hated how much Lexi's relationship with her mother reminded him of his relationship with Mikael.

"I love you." Lexi mumbled once she somewhat recovered from her mental breakdown.

"I love you too." Nik stated as he lowered his head before pressing his lips to hers.

I am so fucking lucky.

"Come in." Nik encouraged.

Kill me now.

Lexi had to resist the urge to evaporate off the surface of the Earth at that point. The pure and utter embarrassment of her mates coming to her aid whilst she was on bed rest causing her to be rather uncomfortable. Apparently, in order to help Lexi with her worries, Nik got his siblings in on his plan to help her, not telling them what was worrying her specifically as he didn't want to violate her trust in him.

"I hate this already." Lexi mumbled.

"No you don't." Nik reassured as the rest of the Mikaelsons and Kai sat in different places around her room.

"If ya'll don't start breakdancing I don't want it." Lexi deadpanned.

"It's not quite that exciting, Love." Nik started. "This is a demonstration of your support system. Everyone in this room is family." Nik said, his gaze flickering up to Kai's reassuringly causing a smile to breakout on Kai's lips which warmed Lexi's heart as she watched the interaction.

And to think Nik killed him almost a year ago.

"Now, there are a countless reasons this child is going be incredibly successful in her life but some of the arguably more important reasons which she gets from her mother are..." Nik prompted.

"She will have the most compassionate soul." Finn uttered.

"She'll be far too stubborn for her own good." Kol stated.

"She'll have the most amazing parents." Bex reassured.

"She will have one hell of a deadpan wit." Kai mocked.

"And we will all love and care for her." Elijah declared.

"Always and Forever." Nik added.

And they most certainly did.
