Ace sat at the usual table with Shawn and Nicolas watching Cory go over to the vending machine while their 6th grade teacher picked up his own drink. Ace shook his head as he watched the two interact, when would Cory learn.
"There he goes again, when will he learn that Mr. Feeny can't stand him." He muttered to his friends, Shawn shrugged slightly before telling Cory almost the same thing. Of course, Cory being well, Cory said he'd drag Mr. Feeny down with him if anything.
As the four boys continued to talk, Shawn noticed a new teacher sitting with Feeny, having no idea who she was, they conculded she was new. Getting back on track, Nicolas asked Cory how late he stayed up.
"Monologue." Cory seemed proud about that, Ace just listened as the three told each other how late they stayed up. The only time Ace really had to watch T.V was at Cory's place, his parents didn't allow him to have T.V.
"Monologue, First Guest, Bad sketch, Funny zoo animal, Steve Lawrence!" Having no clue who in the world Steve Lawrence really was, Ace didn't get as excited as his best friends did for how late Nicolas stayed up. It wasn't long before the bell rang and it was time for class.
Once seated in the classroom beside Shawn in the back, Ace watched as Nicolas and Vanessa went up to the front as Mr. Feeny had them act out Romeo and Juilet. Having read this play over a thousand times, Ace wasn't that interested in it, but he paid attention anyway.
Cory of course was listening to the Philly's game on his little radio and telling Shawn all about it, Mr. Feeny was conducting Nicolas and Vanessa through the play. Ace chuckled to himself as he heard Nic ask if he could stab Vanessa to make sure she is in fact dead.
"You touch me with that knife you better kill me the first time." She growled softly as she got in his face, it was a little scary. Mr. Feeny laid the girl back down on his desk so that they could continue the lesson plan.
Shawn leaned forward to ask Cory how the game was going, Cory started to whisper how it was going, that was before the headphone was revealed by Feeny and then taken. Shawn groaned softly while leaning back. Ace looked at him and basically said, 'That's what you get for wanting to listen to the game.'
"What is this, Mr. Matthews?" Feeny asked his student, Cory pretended not to be able to hear his teacher as a joke. "Oh, he got a piece of that one. It's a long drive, deep to center, back, back to the warning track, climbs up the wall, and..." With that cliffhanger Mr. Feeny turns the radio off to show that they won't hear the rest of the game.
The class let out a collective groan, while aside from Ace, the male wasn't that interested in baseball or really any sport. Mr. Feeny looked at the young Matthews, telling him he shouldn't be listening to the baseball game in his classroom.
Before the teacher could rip into Cory, Nicolas brought the attention back over to the front of the classroom. Vanessa had taken the time to sit up, grab the boy and set him on the table taking the knife and try to stab him.
"Ms. Kincaid, thank you! Thank you, for that uh, vigorus interpretation." Mr. Feeny sighed softly as he set the fake knife back on his desk before turning to face the class. "Mr. Matthews, you do not listen to the ballgame in the middle of my class."
"Mr. Feeny, who cares about some guy who kills himself over some dumb girl?" Cory asks, standing up from his seat, he of course doesn't understand hes 11, how's he supposed to understand a lot of things about the play. Ace doesn't see how Cory couldn't understand it really, than again he was a little different.
The two kept going back and forth about the play, before Mr. Feeny told Cory he had detention Friday afternoon with him. Ace shook his head and once the bell rang for lunch they all left the classroom.
