Chapter 2: Infiltration

As I stared down at the boy, I notice a glaring issue with the scene that I'm witnessing, one that could ultimately doom my plans from the very start. We were not in the correct timeline. If we were then Emilia wouldn't be here and we would instead be seeing Reinhardt, which is good and bad for a number of reasons. The good part being that he wouldn't immediately notice us staring down at the scene, the bad part being that Subaru's thick plot armor may not apply to us. Due to this being the show I invested the most time into researching, I read up on various theories about Re: Zero and one of them is that every time Subaru dies, his soul is transferred to an alternate version of the world, leaving behind the one he previously died in. With this theory, he is not only time travelling, but he is also universe hopping. This gives way to numerous complications as if this theory is true, then I have no clear-cut way of actually engaging in conflict with Subaru. Even though I have the capability to go to multiple versions of the Re: Zero world and circumvent this issue, the problem arises in the fact that it takes time to find the correct timeline in which the Subaru that I am currently challenging goes to. Couple that with the fact that Subaru dies frequently throughout the first few arcs of his journey here and it's quite easy to predict that I will lose track of him somewhere down the line. Of course, this could not be the case and his soul remains in this one and he just travels back in time, but then that runs into another issue that even the clown mastermind himself had some issues with during the whole Sanctuary debacle, the fact that no one remembers the routes that led Subaru to death. Meaning that for the early parts of my plan, I am completely in the dark on how my influence will affect the world with Subaru here. But the game wouldn't be fun without a little bit of risk anyways, the only issue is if that theory is true, then the game could be over before it really begins, as me, Rene, Apex and Milk are not connected intrinsically to this world. Meaning that if the theory is true and Subaru dies here, then he will not encounter us the next time he respawns.

"Damn it", I mutter under my breath. It's loud enough so that everyone around me can hear me cussing so they all turn to me.

"What's wrong", Rene asks concerned.

"We may have an issue that could botch this whole operation."

"What issue", asked Apex.

"He is concerned about whether or not Subaru's 'Return by Death' ability will result in his soul being transferred to an alternate version of Lugnica", said a female voice emanating from Perdita's position. Everyone looked at Perdita confused, expecting an explanation from him, but he was just as confused as they were.

"Waaaa! Perdita is getting possessed", Milk screamed as she shook in terror.

"Fwfwfw ̴ that definitely would be an interesting experience for the bedroom, for us to switch bodies, but for now, I'm here to help you", said the mysterious voice as from out of Perdita's kimono came the top half of Yukari's body as she had her hand on her chin in a leaned posture. This shocks the group as they all jump back, except for Perdita, who looks on intrigued.

"I had a feeling there was something off with the gift you gave me, care to explain", I said.

"Of course, dear. You see, I had my husband's kimono specially made with the help of a few gods and friends to give it the same properties as my gaps. With this, I am able to keep an eye on what goes on here and come to aid you whenever I want. As for your concern my love, do not worry, I will ensure that the witch's power does not affect you all negatively and you will be able to maintain your fun", Yukari explained. Everyone looked confused and I had to explain the origins of where Subaru's power came from and the person they came from. Needless to say, they reacted in shock.

"This is a rather dangerous game you're playing Perdita. I may be all for testing the boy but getting involved with this supposed powerful witch is a bit risky", said Apex.
