“She’s going to be okay, mate,” I heard a faint voice as my eyes slowly started to lift. I looked up to see white ceiling tiles surrounding me. I felt a ridged sheet covering me and a hard piece of plastic attached to my finger.

“How do you know?” Niall’s voice cracked. I would recognize that voice anywhere.

“They got all the poison out, they’re just waiting for her to wake up. Everything is going to be fine,” Liam said, reassuringly.

“She could’ve died,” Harry slowly said, stating what everyone was thinking, but too scared to say.

“But I didn’t,” I said, still looking up at the ceiling. As soon as I spoke, all five boys’ head jerked, giving me their full attention. I rolled over to see Harry removing his hands from his hair as he quickly stood up in shock.

“You’re awake?” Niall asked, running over to my bed. I smiled at him as I took a deep breath in, nodding. He grabbed my hand, nervously, “I though I … I though we lost you.”

“We have lots to show you, Hope,” Zayn said from the end of the hospital bed.

“More than you would know,” Louis, added, grunting.

“But not too much excitement yet,” I heard an unfamiliar voice say. I turned my head to see a tall man in a white coat, strutting into the room. He was very brown and had a thick accent of something that I couldn’t put my finger on.

“Wait, where am I? What day is it?” I asked, as I felt panic start to swell inside me.

“Indonesia!” Louis said, happily.

“And it’s the thirtieth,” Liam said, looking up at me, as if he was bracing for my reaction.

“What!” I tried to scream, but not much came out as I tried to sit up.

“Easy,” The doctor said, stepping toward me, so I settled back down in my bed. “I think it’s best if we give her some time to rest,” the doctor said, looking at the boys as if that was a more polite way of saying “Get lost.” I watched as the boys slowly trailed out in single file. I looked up at the doctor, waiting for some expectation.

"You were bitten by a highly poisonous snake, but luckily for you, your friend came to your aid very shortly afterward. They were able to rush you to a hospital in enough time to get the poison out before it began to spread. You were air lifted to this hospital last night. You’re blessed,” he said, reaching out to my arm as if to comfort me. I must have looked like how I felt, about to burst into tears. “I’ll leave you alone to rest and think things through,” he said, giving me a reassuring smile. I tried to smile back, but I’m pretty sure I failed.

“Knock, knock,” I heard a voice call. I turned my head to see Harry standing in the door giving me a smirk, “Is the scary doctor gone?”  I laughed and nodded, motioning for him to come in.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, sitting down on my bed.

“Overwhelmed,” I said, honestly. “I never knew how close we live to death until I actually almost died,” I said quietly, “I really thought I knew, but I guess I didn’t.”

“Just goes to show that you’re here for a reason,” he said. His eyes were fixed on me in the most seriousness as if nothing in all the world could tear them off of me.

I smiled at him and then frowned, “You know, I didn’t even know what hit me. It was like everything just went blank.”

“It wasn’t easy finding you like that either,” he said, looking down. He looked almost as shaken up as I was.
