I stood staring down at the number and the message for a long time. The tears had halted, and had dried on the surface of my cheeks. I looked over at my phone that was precariously laying on the ground. I slowly walked over to it as if someone else was watching me, disapprovingly. With a quick swoop, I reached down to grasp my phone and frantically pushed the numbers into my phone. I made sure that Niall was the last thing that was on my mind.
“Hello?” Daniel’s voice answered.
His voice is so cute. But not as cute as Niall’s. Shut up! “Hey!” I said, trying to sound normal and happy as I ran my hand through my hair knowing I was neither. “It’s Hope.”
“Oh, Hey! You got my message?” he asked, I could tell he was smirking.
“Yeah, so I’m sort of stuck in LA with nothing to do,” I said, sighing as I walked over to my window and stared out at the busy streets of LA.
“I can come get you and we can go wherever you want,” Daniel said, jumping at the opportunity.
“That would be amazing. I just really want to go back to Disney Land,” I said, biting my lip.
“Whatever you like,” he said, sounding like he sincerely just wanted to make me happy. He must have heard the hurt in my voice.
“I’m at the hotel,” I whimpered.
“Hey, Hope,” he said as if he had known me for years instead of a few hours, “Don’t write today off because a few things have gone wrong. Today can still be amazing. Don’t write me off.”
Before Daniel picked me up I got a text saying that he was bringing his sister because she was a huge fan and that when we got to the park she would meet up with some friends.
“It’s you!” she screamed at me when I opened the car door. “It’s her!” she screamed at her brother as he nodded sarcastically.
“What’s your name sweetie?” I asked, leaning into the car to give her a hug. I laughed as she stuttered for a while.
“Her name is Harmony,” Daniel said, grinning as I got into the car.
“Well it’s very nice to meet you, Harmony,” I said smiling down at the darkly tanned fourteen year old girl sitting beside me. Her long hair was bleached by the sun and her brown eyes contradicted her brother’s. Her freckles were scattered across her nose like a fresh rain fall and she was quick to smile. On the way to Disney Land, she swarmed me with questions about the boys, piano, and what it was like to be on tour. I’ve seen each boy from One Direction answer each of these questions multiple times. I felt special that it was finally my turn.
“Do I have to go?” Harmony whined at Daniel who threw her an annoyed glance.
“She can stay,” I said smiling at the excited girl that reminded me so much of myself at that age; carefree and hyper.
“Fine.” Daniel said, rolling his eyes, while Harmony’s eyes lit up like fireworks. The rest of the day was filled with laughing, going on rides and getting blisters from walking around in my inadequate gladiators. The more I got to know Daniel and Harmony, the more I began to forget about Niall and Annie. But everything came rushing back when we walked out to the big bridge in the middle of the park right before the fireworks show and I saw Annie and Niall on the other side of the bridge. Annie was wearing Niall’s sweater…
Niall’s never given me his sweater.
I turned my back to them partially thinking that it might make me forget about them and partially because I didn’t want them to see me.
