Hello, readers, i'm starting this new series called Alternate History. This series details alternate histories that involved very iconic Cruise Ships and Ocean Liners if they didn't sink or get scrapped.
The first episode is for the ill-fated SS Normandie, that sadly caught fire and sank in New York Harbor.

1942 - 1946: USS Lafayette
The Normandie under the US Navy as the USS Lafayette, served alongside the Cunard Super Liner's, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth during World War 2.
It had a very uneventful career during its time in the US Navy, but alongside the Cunard Queens, she was one of the largest Troop Transport Ships in service.
1946 - 1974: Post War
In January of 1946, USS Lafayette is returned to Le Harve for renovations back into her original a Ocean Liner.
In 1949, she returns from renovations and is immediately put back into service and quickly becomes the Line most successful Ocean Liner.
In early March, 1950 Normandie witnesses, the burning of the SS Montana formerly German Liner, SS Europa.
In May that year, Normandie and Ile De France pass by each other for the first time since the war.
In 1952, Normandie passes by the new Blue Riband holder, American Super Liner, SS United States.
In 1956, Normandie helps rescue passengers from the sinking SS Andrea Doria.
In 1960, Normandie is renamed "Bretagne" after her cancelled sister ship, and is renovated with new Electric Engines.
In 1962, Normandie sail alongside new fleet member SS France on her maiden voyage.
In 1967, she enters Souhampton for the first time and meets the Queen Mary prior to her retirement.
In 1974, Normandie is retired alongside the SS France, and is laided up in Le Harve.
In 1979, Normandie is bought by Costa Cruises for $20 Million and renamed the "Costa Floro" and goes under a 80 Million heavy renovation.
1980 - 1981: Costa Floro
The renovation, involved modifying her interiors, to be better suited for Cruise Ships, and has her Engines are completely removed and replaced and she's been retrofitted with brand new modern equipment to keep up with modern Cruise Ships. And her propellers are refitted wuith newer models for faster speeds.
And another plan was to remove her third funnel back the costs to remove it were to much and was kept.
