Seoul; Present Day

He could hear the sound of a steady beeping noise that seemed to be getting louder with each passing second. Everything was dark save for a faint light coming from the right, which also seemed to be rapidly intensifying and spreading. Then, all of a sudden, he was able to open his eyes, but the action felt weird and almost unnatural, as if he had been asleep for so long that he forgot how they worked. The image was bright and blurry at first, and he closed his eyes a split second after opening them. He did this a few times, blinking as he let his eyes adjust to the unfamiliar scene unfolding around him.

The room was mostly white with a few pictures and pieces of furniture in it giving it some random pops of color. He groaned softly as he moved his head to the left, seeing a big machine with several wires connected to it. The beeping sound startled him as he realized that it was the machine right next to him that was causing it. On the other side of the room was a large panel of windows with what must have been hundreds of flowers and cards shoved on the wide windowsill beneath them.

His attention was abruptly drawn to the door on the left side of the room as it opened. Sehun walked in with a clear cup of something that resembled coffee, letting out a tired yawn as turned around to make sure the door shut. He jumped and cursed when he looked over at an awake Jongin, his eyes wide and suddenly alert.

"Holy shit, you're finally awake?" was the first thing he said to him. Jongin opened his mouth to speak, but nothing really came out because his tongue felt dry and a sudden pain attacked his throat. Sehun set his cup down and rushed over to his side. "How are you feeling? Does your head hurt? The doctor said your head might hurt." Again, Jongin tried to speak, but his throat hurt so badly that his voice came out hoarse and practically inaudible. He was bringing his hand up to his throat when Sehun cursed again as if he had an epiphany. "You're probably thirsty. Let me get you some water." He dashed over to the small mini fridge that Jongin was just now realizing was in the room and pulled out a water bottle. He twisted the cap off with a cracking sound, instructing Jongin to open his mouth before carefully pouring some into it. A cold, relieving sensation hit his throat and he let out a satisfied moan as that same sensation quickly spread throughout his entire body. Sehun pulled the bottle away after barely a minute much to Jongin's dismay.

"K-Kyungsoo..." His voice still sounded a little rough, but it was much easier to speak thanks to the cold drink of water. "W-Where is K-Kyungsoo? I-Is he...o-okay?" A puzzled look took over Sehun's face.

"What are you talking about?" he asked. It was Jongin's turn to become confused.

"T-The accident...h-he was h-hurt, too...I s-saw the b-blood..."

Sehun's pupils temporarily floated to the corners of his eyes. "Jongin, you were the only one they found in the car."

Car? What car? He shook his head as best as he could. "N-No...the h-horse...we f-fell..." Sehun gazed at him in concern for a long moment, which only proceeded to make Jongin feel even more bewildered.

"I should call in the doctor," he said, slowly backing up and then turning around to leave the room again. He came back only minutes later, this time with another man. He did in fact recognize him as the doctor, but it didn't make the situation become any clearer to him. He wasn't wearing the same garments he was when they met the first time, as his body was now covered by a white coat.

"It's nice to see you awake, Jongin--or would you prefer to be called Kai?" he said as he walked over to this bedside.

"K-Kai?" The name felt even stranger to speak than it did to hear. It was as if he had completely forgotten that part of him existed. The doctor seemed curious about the way he said his reply, humming lowly as he observed him.
