The Dragon's Farewell
ancient ballad, versified from the Ur-Tongue
by Tir-Axen, First Minstrel of Eelor Kato,
YBS 3014 - 3021
"Farewell," spoke the dragon of Draklunys Keep,
"In the heart of the mountain I once more must sleep.
My strength has been emptied completing my quest,
My struggle was fierce, and now I must rest."
"O how will we manage?" the king cried in dread,
And bitter and long were the tears that he shed.
"How can our nation maintain its good name
Without your sage counsel, your true judgement's flame?"
"Time must keep turning," the dragon replied.
"You have outgrown your childhood, and you must decide.
The shape of your lives and the steps that you take
For good or for evil, are now yours to make.
"I charge you, remember the things you have learned.
Forget not the goodness for which you have yearned.
Grant food to the hungry, your strength to the lame,
Battle the darkness whence you yourself came.
The future is yours to use as you will.
Remember the minstrels will never be still.
The ages to come will broadcast your fame
And all you have done, to your glory or shame."
