Swords and Screams

Sherlock whipped around and saw the pirate captain standing behind he and the Doctor, holding a sword out threateningly towards them. "Quick," Sherlock hissed, "Use the sword. At least hold it out threatening in front so he won't use his."

"I'm not going to use violence for anything that can easily be solved through speaking," the Doctor whispered. "Okay!" he said, louder this time, "What can we do for you? And can you put the sword down, it's very distracting and I simply cannot concentrate when it's held out near me, thank you. Now, let's see,"

"Are we just going to talk our way out of this?" Sherlock whispered, annoyed. He had been hoping for something better, something more exciting.

"Shh," the Doctor shushed him, then raised his voice to continue talking to the pirates, "What are you hiding behind that door? Jewels? Money? What do you think, eh, Sherlock?"

Sherlock shrugged. He had some ideas, but none of them were developed enough to share aloud.

"Alright, I'm going to open this door and-"

"You stop right there!" the captain growled and swung his sword. The Doctor ducked and the sword whizzed inches from the top of Sherlock's curly-haired head, thanking his lucky stars that he was young and still short.

Before he knew what was happening, Sherlock found himself in the midst of a battle; the Doctor had finally decided to use his sword and was blocking the captain from reaching the door. Two other men leaped out from what seemed like thin air and joined the battle. Sherlock dodged a sword and slammed himself against the door to get out of the way of another.

Momentarily, he was distracted from the fight. His back was against the bank vault and he could feel energy pulsing from behind the closed door. It felt warm compared to the windy, sea sprayed deck of the ship, and he turned, pressing his hands and his cheek against it. He heard a sort of humming noise, filling his ears with a sweet melody mingled with buzzing. The lock wasn't closed all the way, as if someone had been taken away from it in a hurry. He reached out the open it, but before he could touch it, a scream pierced out. The humming had stopped and was replaced by ear-splitting shrieks, just like the ones that Sherlock had heard when he first exited the TARDIS. And it was coming from inside the vault.

Sherlock frowned. There was no way the bank vault was large enough to fit a person, unless it was a child like himself. The scream had snapped him out of his daydream-like state and he was suddenly aware of his surroundings once again. He swiveled around in time to see the Doctor knock the captain down with his sword. The Doctor couldn't see one of the other two men advancing, but Sherlock could. He ran up and swung his leg up, kicking the man in the back of the knee. The man collapsed with a large groan, and the Doctor was left to focus on the remaining man.

He swung his sword, but the Doctor met it with his own, with a loud sound of crashing metal. The Doctor pushed back on his sword with enough force that the other man fell backwards. "Making me use violence like that," the Doctor scoffed and turned to Sherlock, "Alright, would you like to do the honors?"

Sherlock nodded eagerly and ran over to the vault. The screaming had stopped and the music had resumed, so he reached out. As soon as his hand touched the warm metal, the humming stopped and the screams started up again. Alright, Sherlock thought to himself, So whatever's behind this doesn't want to be discovered. With a yank, he opened the door to see a large, golden, floating ball of light, bobbing up and down slightly.

"What is that?" Sherlock asked.

Author's Note: Really short update, but I have writer's block (which is weird because this is a fanfic but oh well). Yikes it's been a while since I last updated. I'll try not to do that again. Thanks for reading!
