—— CHAP 5 ——
January 1st, 1986

Two days and one Cat-sit later, Lily was in her room getting ready for the New Years party that her family just had to go to. She was less than excited, currently sitting at her desk In a sports bra and spandex shorts with curlers in her hair. On her bed was laid out her blue dress. And a corset. Her mother insisted she wear one, to keep her body looking perfect, to make her attractive. 'Bullshit' she thought, knowing damn well she would look attractive regardless of how big her waist was.

Running her fingers over the delicate fabric that was her dress, she slipped it on, ignoring the corset that was still on her bed.

She was simply not going to wear it.

Zipping up the back of the dress, she turned to look in the mirror, admiring how the dress fit her. Looking closer at the dress, there were light blue flower patterns decorating the fabric, standing out against the dark navy.

Lily smiled, she never normally liked wearing dresses, but she felt confident in this one. She carefully took out her hair curlers and ran her fingers through her hair, trying to pat away the static. With one last smooth of her dress, she opened her bedroom door and walked out, headed to the stairs to meet the rest of her family.

At the bottom of the stairs, stood the other three Becketts, in varying levels of fuss. Mrs Beckett was at the top of the chart, obviously, practically rearranging everyone's outfits to her liking. Anna was next, merely brushing her hair and smoothing out her father's suit jacket. Last was Mr. Beckett, who was very annoyed at the two women swarming him, and had quite enough of being preened. He opened his mouth to shout at them but Lillian made it to the bottom of the stairs just in time to interrupt him.

"All ready to go!" Lillian said, leaning down and double knotting her white Chuck Taylors. She stood back up and met with her mothers disapproving gaze, which was silently roaming her body In anger. Lillian knew what she was looking for and rolled her eyes, following her Father and sister out the door.

Once all in the car, Mrs. Beckett began her usual 'pre-event' speech, detailing what manners and customs they must uphold.

"Don't speak unless spoken to, keep your eyes downcast unless in conversation, and make sure to absolutely compliment every last detail of this party" she said sternly, keeping her gaze facing forward. "Try to make friends within your age group, it helps with our standing as a family. You know that" she finished.

Lillian was looking out the window, quietly sighing and only half paying attention. Majority of this speech was nothing new, but it still made her stomach flip uneasily. Her mother was entirely narcissistic, and obsessed with her family's image. Lillian was convinced her mother only had kids because society wanted her to.

As the family car pulled up to the rented out Hawkins High gymnasium, Lily glanced around at the other parked cars. She spotted numerous 1985 Chevrolet Corvettes, 1985 Dodge caravans, and 1984 Honda Accords, all extremely wealthy cars. Except one, a van, slightly older looking, at the far edge of the parking lot. Lily shrugged it off, mentally preparing herself for the overwhelming experience she was about to go through.

As she stepped out of the car, and her family grouped up to enter the doors, her mother turned to her.

"Lillian, you will not eat a single thing tonight, understand? If I find out you consumed even a single piece of anything, you will not eat at all this weekend. Understand?" Her mom didn't wait for an answer, turning to breeze through the doors, leaving a shocked Lillian in her wake.
