"This project is taking forever."
Early December Snow hit the ground outside as two ravenclaw students sat in their dorm.
"It's only been a few months, Lorelei."
"That's too long."
Liz rubbed her back, "I'm sure if you found him at a party and snogged him, he'd be groveling at your feet."
Raising her head from where she'd placed it on a pillow, Lorelei tilted her head back and forth, "Tempting. But I want him to be the one to grovel first. Going after his lower mind first feels like cheating. He wouldn't actually be interested in me, which is what I need so that I can crush his black heart."
"Men aren't as complex as you're making them out to be. If you strung him along on sex appeal alone, he'd eventually fall for you and you'll be at the same destination, but faster."
Melissa was visiting Madam Pomfrey, apparently she had a nasty headache.
Leaving Liz and Lorelei alone in their dorm.
"I just want to have the achievement that I hooked Potter without using anything other than my brain and my mouth."
Liz smirked wickedly, "I know a few ways you could use your mouth that would get him hooked."
Using the pillow she had resting in her lap, Lorelei whacked Liz in the face. "My words, you animal."
Liz raised her hands in defense, "Just suggesting."
"Suggest something that isn't shag related."
After a comfortable lapse of silence the door burst open, revealing Melissa who gasped for air as if she was out of breath. "You-" Wheeze, "Have-" Wheeze, "To-" Wheeze, "Come-" Wheeze, "See-"
Before she even finished her sentence, Lorelei and Liz were up and rushing past her.
All was calm in the ravenclaw dorm, other than some first years who were whispering excitedly at one another.
Liz and Lorelei turned to Melissa as she stumbled down the stairs after them, "Great Hall."
Leaving their friend, Liz and Lorelei burst out of the common room and practically sprinted to the Great Hall.
As they neared, they saw a large crowd formed in the doorway. Pushing their way through the crowd, they slowly started to hear yells and commotion coming from inside the dining hall.
"I am not your property! I never was!"
Popping out at the other end, the two found themselves at the edge of a circle of students who were all watching as Lily Evans and James Potter verbally ripped each other apart.
"When did I ever treat you like property!?" James yelled, getting red in the face.
"When didn't you?" Lily yelled back, "Anytime anyone tried to even get near me you'd intervene! The only reason Lorelei got close enough to be able to snog me was because you're annoying ass was asleep!"
Liz and Lorelei met each other's eyes wearing similar expressions of disbelief. They held eye contact for a moment before returning their attention to the Gryffendors.
"I have loved you every day we have known each other, does that mean nothing to you?" James had sweat running down his neck.
Lily covered her eyes, "No!" She burst, "It has never affected me, because James, honestly, you do not love me. You don't know a thing about me! I'm sorry you've wasted your years at Hogwarts pining after me, but I'm not going to wear down. I'm not going to give in. If I say no today, that is not an invitation to try again tomorrow with the hopes I'll say yes."
"Lily-"
"No! You are going to listen to me. Like you should have listened to me before. I will not date you James. Not today, not tomorrow, not in five years, or ten years, or in any amount of time." Lily took a deep breath, and for a brief moment the only sounds in the room were their ragged breaths, and the soft breaths of the students around them.
"I don't think you're a bad person James, and if you had been a normal guy I might have given you a real chance." She said in a much calmer tone, "But you have ruined your chances. You have. Not Lorelei or anyone else; you. No one made you ask me out everyday, or flirt with me when I told you to leave me alone. It is well past time you grew up and faced the consequences of your actions."
"Lily-" He tried, voice cracking slightly.
Holding her hand up, Lily cut him off, "It is time you heard my words James. I will not let you ignore me again. This game you have of toying with my love life is over. You need to move past whatever fantasy you have built around me."
She finished off, speaking lowly so only he and those closest people to them could hear, "I am willing to be your friend, James. I will not offer you anything beyond that." Turning, Lily walked away, the crowd parting a way for her to exit.
James Potter was left alone with people surrounding him, each having witnessed him be rejected by the girl he'd devoted every thought to.
It took him a few minutes before he even looked up from the spot on the floor he'd been staring at since Lily left. Seeing the people surrounding him made his face harden. Lorelei had never seen him even close to this angry before.
Letting out a harsh breath (she could've sworn he blew steam) he stormed off, a similar pattern happening as Lily where the crowd parted before him.
"That was not how I expected today to go." Liz said from her right.
Lorelei looked over to her, "You think?"
The two dissolved into a puddle of giggles as the other students slowly cleared out of the great hall. Once they were the only ones not sitting at a table, Lorelei finally got up.
"Where are you going?" Liz called at her as she started walking to the exit.
"I'm gonna go find Lily. Tell Melissa what happened, okay? I'll be back at the dorm later."
