There were many ideas Lorelei had for how she would spend her eighteenth birthday.

Maybe she would swim in the black lake, spend the day with James, hang out with her friends.

She did not expect to be thrown into a three hour lecture on how to conjure a corporeal patronus. Especially not a lecture led by Remus Lupin.

Lorelei raised her hand.

Remus nodded at her with a half smirk. He was enjoying the professor role a bit too much for Lorelei's comfort.

"Where is Professor Elm?" She asked. Although she'd opted out of taking defence against the dark arts, she knew the outspoken professor and it was unlike them to hand class time over to a student.

Lupin's confidence dimmed as he replied cryptically, "They're assisting Professor Wells with hauling a trampoline into his classroom."

Lorelei furrowed her brows but Remus plowed over any further discussion on the topic - rambling on about the requirements to make a solid patronus.

Lorelei once again found herself confused at the reason she was attending the lecture. A quick glance around the room confirmed she was the only other seventh year outside of Remus in the room. Dumbledore had cornered her on her way to the Great Hall and gave her not so subtle hints until she agreed to join the class.

Annoyance flared in her chest. Had she not proven her abilities? Why was she not the one teaching the class? Her patronus was just as impressive as Remus's, if not better.

Her face reflected her bitterness, and in her swarm of thoughts she nearly missed Remus calling on her. "Lorelei? Would you mind?"

Blinking her thoughts away, Lorelei tried to remember what he wanted as the whole class stared at her. "Pardon me?"

Remus gave her a ghost of a smile. "Would you mind demonstrating to the class a corporeal patronus?"

Standing up, trying to clear her confusion, Lorelei pulled out her wand and held it in front of her. It was a bit harder to be confident when every eye in the room was centered on her ability to form an animal.

Turning her anxiety into an opportunity to show her talents Lorelei breathed loudly through her nose, forcefully dispelling her anxiety.

Clearing her throat she held up her wand.

Closing her eyes, she thought of when she kissed James at the Halloween party.

Unconsciously, a smile fell on her lips.

"Expecto Patronum."

She knew it worked when the blue light coming off her wand bled through the back of her eyelids.

Opening her eyes, she smiled at the familiar shape swimming around the room.

Lorelei had cast her first patronus when she was fourteen in her third year at Hogwarts. Although it wasn't a corporeal patronus, she could still see and understand what it was meant to be.
