"I'm his mother. I should do it."

"And I'm his father." James argued, unnecessarily rolling up his sleeve, "You've already tried one blood magic spell for Harry, it makes sense that I be the next guinea pig."

"I recall you weren't the most supportive on that occasion."

"I can admit that Blood Magic makes me uncomfortable. But that's all the more reason why I won't let you try an experimental spell again."

"So you can die instead of me?"

"Precisely."

"For fucks sake, James."

"Lorelei." Grabbing her hand, he pulled her close. "Love. Please let me do this?"

Resting her forehead on his, she closed her eyes. "I'll call the Ministry on you."

"No, you won't." He replied softly. Confidently.

"Imagine the scandal. James Potter the auror, arrested for attempting a blood spell."

"Will you visit me in prison?"

At that, she smiled. "You wouldn't last a day."

Leaning forward, he kissed her. Holding her against him until she relaxed. Resting his forehead against hers, he whispered. "Please let me do the spell, Lori. I can't do it without you."

"That should be our family motto." She replied, ignoring the other half of their conversation. "We're all codependent on each other."

"Lorelei. Please?"

Letting out a slow breath, she took a step back. "Fine."

James tried to hide how much he relished the win, but Lorelei knew him too well. Shaking her head in a mix of half-amusement and half-anxiety, she grabbed her wand and tapped it against his arm, pulling it back as she spoke the spell. "Sanguis viverra,"

Slowly, a stream of red blood came flowing out from his arm to her wand. Grabbing the bowl she'd prepared in advance, she placed the tip of her wand at the bottom, the blood following the tip, filling the bowl until she cut off the spell.

"That felt...odd." James said, rolling back his shoulders.

Extending a glass of water she'd also set aside; she stared at the bowl of blood. "Are we good parents?"

James, who'd grabbed Harry from his highchair, sat back down by the bowl. "What do you mean?"

"It's just," She let out a breathy laugh, "I don't think muggle parents would ever stick their sons' hands in blood."

"They wouldn't have reason to. We have reason to."

"I suppose that's true."

Harry, oblivious baby Harry, who couldn't hardly hold his own head up without support, gurgled happily in his dad's arms.
