"Yea chai you dry" i said after he kept bugging me to check him. He really hate that damn dryer. We went back to my station and i started taking the clips out his head.

"Girl kaycee why he looks so familiar?" My worker next to me asked.

"He's my ex boyfriend" i informed her.

"Oooo ex boyfriend huh? So he the market now?" She asked as if chai wasnt sitting right infront of us.

"Hell no" i said quicker and more serious then intended. Chai laughed.

"I mean he's single but not for yall" i said embarrassed.

She rolled her eyes and walked away.

I saw him looking at me through the mirror smirking.

"Shut Up" i said playfully hitting him on the arm with a light chuckle.

I finished taking the clips out and sprayed his dreads with oil sheen.

"Im done" i said smiling.

He stood up, stretched and admired his hair.

"You still got it ma" he said smiling and giving me a hug

"Never lost it". I responded back.

"Hichu!" I said sneezing. I been feeling sick all day!

"Ma you good?" He asked as i reached for the box if tissue on my station.

"I been feeling bad . i got a bad ass cold" i said blowing my nose. Once i finished i rubbed my hands with hand sanitizer and started cleaning up.

"You want me to bring you something? Like soup or some shit?" He asked.

"I shook my head yea as i finished cleaning my station

"Okay ill be over there in like a hour" he said leaving

"Kaycee you wanna keep him he's most definitely a keeper!" One of my workers said. I just shook my head smiling. Once i finished cleaning up i said my goodbyes and left. I went straight home and got in the tub. Ive been on my feet all day and my body has suffered. ALOT! I washed up my body and got out the tub. Luckily im off tomorrow so i can rest. I took my hair out the ball i put it in and brushed my weave out. I dried off and lotioned my body. I put on my underwear with a big tshirt and black leggings. I grabbed a box of tissue and started heading towards my bed when i heard a knock. I opened the door to let chai in.

"So i got alot of shit from walmart" he said bring the bags in. He took it to the counter and started unloading.

"iight so i got 5 boxes if Kleenex, Advil, ibuprofen, beef soup, chicken soup, theraflu, chocolate, lemonade, chips, and oatmeal."

"Damn chai thank you" i said smiling then coughing. Its like i was choking on air for a second. He put all the cans away and followed me to my room with the snacks and medicine.

I got in the bed and turned on the tv. My nose felt a waterfall like got dammit wouldnt stop. No matter if i laid down or sat up. I opened a bag of chips and juice and watched tv.

"You work today" i asked him

"It dont take long to cut hair. I did that from 8 til you text me to come on. Made about 200$" he said eating some of my chips.

"You know i still owe you that foot rub?" He said grabbing the lotion and moving the cover off my feet. he started going in on my feet. I swear it felt like heaven.before i knew it i was knocked out.

I woke up around 3am hungry! I ate the rest of my chips that was laying next to me then I noticed chai wasnt left. I went to the kitchen to put my lemonade up and i saw him sleeping on the couch with no cover. I went to my hall closet and grabbed a blanket for him. I unfolded the blanket and laid it on him.

"Thanks ma" chai said which scared the hell outta me.

"You was up the entire time?" I asked him

"Nah but i dont sleep heavy" he said and i went back to my room. I had to blow my noise a few times until i could semi breathe correctly. I checked my phone and saw a few missed calls from danni but i figured i'd call her in the morning.

I woke up to 5 missed calls from danni and a text saying

Danni💖👭: i love you kaycee you are truly my sister.

I tried calling her a few times but didnt get an answer. I had a bad gut feeling that something wasn't right . I quickly put on a pair of sweats, a nikey hoodie and grabbed my keys and shoes.then i remember to brush my teeth.

"Whats wrong?" Chai asked walking in my bathroom. He got a new tooth brush and we brushed our teeth. Once we were done i said

"We need to go to danni's house"

We drove to danni house and too see a few police cars there. I got out the car and ran to the front door.

"Excuse me officer what happened?" I asked beyond scared of the response.

"You are?"

"The woman that stay her sister"

"Okay so apparently there was a big fight. According to the report, her husband took their kids but came back to do damage. He's being charged with domestic abuse. He turned himself in already but we do not know what happened to the kids" he explained

"Where's my sister now?" I asked

"Well one of the officers called this morning to check on her. She was told the lady had a few broken ribs and went into surgery today. Luckily it went well but she's still recovering from the surgery"

"Thanks" i mumbled.

Everything around me felt so numb. I wanted to break down but not infront of everyone. The only person who ever seen me cry is danni. We got in the car and i drove back to my house.

"You dont want to go to the hospital?" Chai asked

"Not now" i mumbled. I walked in my house and went straight for the bathroom in my room. I closed the door behind me and went to the farthest corner. I leaned against the wall with my knees to my chest snd just cried. Im so pissed at myself. She called me so many times but i didnt answer. Even though i was sleep I shouldve did something! If I wouldve answered maybe chai couldve stopped him. Maybe she would be with her kids. I heard the door opened and I quickly wiped my face. Chai walked towards me and sat right next to me. He pulled me close to him causing me to lean on his chest.

"Talk to me"he said

"Im okay"

"nooo you not. Stop being so guarded when im trying to be here for you"

"Chai what if i wouldve heard my phone ringing? She called me so many times! This whole thing couldve been prevented" i said lowly as my voice trembled.

"Nah baby dont do that. We didnt know but you gotta be strong for her. We got to get them kids back. We not going to that hospital unless they're with us" he said rubbing my arm and i shook my head okay.
