Chapter 14: The Euros Final

The minutes are counting down until we step out onto the pitch to try win silverware for the country, we are all in the changing room getting ready to go out and warm up, we could already hear the fans and they were loud, even from the changing rooms, one person that was getting on my nervous was Leah, she was getting up to go to the toilet every two minutes then would come back sit in her sit and then repeat it over and over again, this was about the sixth time she has done it ten minutes, I stood up from my sit and walked to the bathroom where Leah was, there I saw her with her hands on each sides of the sink and her head was looking down at the sink, I moved around her and put my hands around her waist and pulled her back so she was resting against me "what's wrong Leah?" I asked softly "nothing Olivia im fine" Leah replied, I can read Leah like a book, even if you couldn't you would of known she was lying, " come on Leah tell me what's wrong, is it the match?" i asked again, Leah didn't reply she just nodded, I turned her around so we were now hugging, she parried her head into my neck and held my waist tight with her hands, there was no space between each other, "what's making you the most stressed?" Leah just hugged me tighter, if there was any way she could do that "not performing in front of my whole family, not being the best captain I can be and might having to be the captain who has to leaded the team to get second place medals, I mean its my first euros and im captain for it I don't know if I can do it" Leah said lifting her head out of my neck to say it and putting her head back in my neck after she finished" Leah have you heard your self, you are captain of England on your first euros because you are the perfect person to be it, you've lead us to these finals on your first go at what the age of 25, that's impressive, if anything your family and this country are already proud of you and if we come second today you know what no one will be disappoint of you because Leah you have been the best captain this country has had in years! If you act like this is a normal match, lets say like your playing Aston Villa, then you won't get nerves, don't think about the trophy, that's gonna add more nervous feelings" I paused for a second and then said softly "and im proud of you no matter what, same with your family and everyone in this country" I gave her a kiss on the head and pulled out of the hug and grabbed leahs hand "come on cap you've got to lead us to victory" Leah laughed and walked closer to me with our hands interlocked, we walked out of the dressing room, I unlocked our hands, the media don't need to focus on that today, and we walked out to the pitch to warm up, Leah has this thing where she always has to spot her family before the match, during warm up I was her partner and I could see she was trying to spot her family, as we were walking back to the changing room to get dressed for the match me and Leah had to walk from the other side of the pitch to get to the tunnel so I tried to find her family, I founded them after a few seconds, I leaned into leahs side "Leah they are over there" I said while pointing in the direction of the tunnel, they were sat right by the tunnel, Leah waved at them with a big smile on her face " thank you Olly" and with that we walked into the changing room

We lined up in the tunnel, we got the signal that we could walk out onto the field, when we walked out onto the field the stadium erupted in noise, we sang our national song and got in our line up, I was in LB and Leah was in LCB so we were next to each other, I walked over Leah on my way to my starting position and gave her a high five and secretly whispered into her ear "show them what your made of cap" and then walked of to my starting position, the whistle went and the biggest game of my career began

I was so angry I went up to the ref " ref you've made the wrong decision there she got the whole ball the not a free kick and defiantly not a yellow card!" I said to the ref, the ref was having none of it and told me to go away, I did eventually well after Leah had to pull me away " come on Olly its not worth it" Leah said in soft calming voice " but it is Leah, Georgia has to be carefully now for no reason, it gives Germany an advantage"
