Seto watched her as she slept, curls falling over her soft features. She was beautiful, absolutely breathtaking. Clearing a few curls out of her face, he checked the time on his wristwatch. It was three o'clock in the morning. Sighing, he realised he wouldn't be able to leave her in the library alone. Stooping over, he scooped her up into his arms. He heard her mumbling from the depths of her sleep. As he held her soft body close to his own, he inhaled her scent. She smelt like the ocean , her blonde curls falling into her face again. She smiled in her sleep, some pleasant dream had its grips on her mind at the minute. Not recognising that the body holding her was home to a soul who has had nothing but nightmares for ten years.
The hallway before their bedrooms where quiet, so very quiet. The only thing he could hear was the wind whistling in Sophia's room. Pushing the door open with his hip, he realised how cold it was. She'd left the balcony doors open. He felt her shiver in his arms. Quickly, he bustled her into the room and placed her gently on the bed. Throwing the thicket blanket over her, he made sure she was tucked in.
Sophia's eyes fluttered open, just as she heard someone shut the balcony doors. She watched with half closed eyes as Kaiba dropped to his hands and knees and lifted the blanket that flipped over the side, check in under the bed. She was only more confused as she witness him open her walk in wardrobe, check behind the drapes, and then did another visual scan of the room. Satisfied everything was fine, he exited the room. Not wanting to worry for no reason, she nestled down and went to sleep.
She awoke later that day to a light knock on the door. "Miss! Miss Sophia! Your breakfast is ready!" She opened her eyes. The door creaked open, and a maid popped her head in. Chestnut brown hair in a bun, with warm brown eyes set off her pale complexion.
"Do you need help getting dressed?" She asked.
"Oh no no ! I'm fine. Thank you!" Sophia stuttered. What a strange thing to ask. She felt like royalty, which she clearly was not. The maid nodded, telling her the breakfast was in the dining room and will be dished up in five minutes. Getting up, she washed her face in the stark white en suite and put on her dressing gown. She started to pad down the hall, then stopped. Before she fell asleep the first time, she remembered falling asleep in the library. Then she remembered waking up to Seto looking around in her room. Did he carry her to bed?
Getting downstairs to the dining room, she realise Seto was already there, reading his paper. He was at the top of a long table that was built for about twenty people. Upon hearing her come in, he put his paper down. He looked different today, sterner. Much more serious. He was already showered, shaved and dressed in a suit that was clearly a more expensive Armani suit, looking sharp and every inch the billionaire he was. She felt very plain and silly in her old cotton dressing gown. "Good morning Sophia. I have to go to work and I'm running late. I'll see you later tonight. I've spoken to Mokuba, he knows you're here, understands the situation fully. I've got to go, I'm already I've minutes behind schedule." He nodded, business-like. He turned to leave. "Enjoy your breakfast." he called lightly, before exiting the room. She shook her head. Pulling her phone out of her pocket, she dialled her Nonni's number. After a few rings, she answered the phone. "Hello? Sophia? Is that you?"
"Yes Nonni's. I read your message last night and fell asleep, so I'm calling to talk to you. What did Dad actually say to you?" Sophia asked her grandmother, not sure what to expect.
"Oh, that man! I'm telling you Sophia, he infuriates me. Sending you away to live in Domino City, of all places. I don't see why you didn't turn straight around. Who is this business partner he's sent you to stay with? I swear, he better not think you some filthy concubine for a dirty old man. What's his name?" Sophia smiled at her grandmothers attempt to be stern.
"It's not like that Nonni's! This mans house is so big, I could not see him if I really wanted to. But he's not a dirty old man. He's only a couple of years older than me. His name is Seto Kaiba."
There was silence at one end of the phone. And then:
"You're staying at Seto Kaiba's mansion? You mean the man who made himself a multi billionaire by the age of 15 and literally halved the worlds guns supplies by shutting down the biggest corporation of arms making in the world? That Seto Kaiba?"
"Erm, I assume so."
"Sophia... Please... Marry that man. And the first thing I want you to buy for your old Nonni would be a yacht with lots of young, half naked men on board." Her grandmother joked.
"NONNI! Behave yourself!"
"Oh look at the time! It's time to go into town! Bye Sophia. I love you!" Her Nonni hung up before she could say I love you back.Sophia held her head in her hands. The stress related headache started to settle in. She heard a light tap from the door frame. It was the pregnant maid from the day before. With pretty, big blue eyes and her curly brown hair, she came in with a tray of breakfast. It consisted of toast, bacon and eggs, cereal, a tea pot, juice and coffee. "Here's the breakfast Mr. Kaiba asked us to make for you. Is there anything else I could get you Miss?" she asked her in the most polite tone.
"Please, call me Sophia."
