Lifting the covers

I discovered a shocking reality just then. It shook my very foundations. On reading the article more properly now, I found out that the ones who died were from my school. The girl, Hannah, must have been in the girl's wing, and the boy who had passed away now, Arthur, was in my grade! 

Once again, there were no clues found that could help identify the cause of the death. There was but one difference this time. There were marks on his chest, marks like someone probably tried to cut him using a knife. Scratches, superficial, most of them. Yet, on further detailed examination, it was supposedly found that no knife could have possibly done that, not even a butter knife. It was like, the marks APPEARED on the body, not because of external forces or pressure, but because of some unknown reason. It was all confounding, and the police were at their wits' end once again.

Slowly, I kept the paper down. I wanted answers, solutions. I couldn't take the mystery any more. So I decided to seach something up on the internet. On a popular search engine, I typed "Death without proof". Naturally, nothing turned up, very few useful things showed up. After about an hour, I decided to give up. 

I was tired and decided to take a swim. I went to the pool, it was early evening, and we were allowed to use the pool till 8:30pm. Slowly, I stepped inside the pool. The water was cold, as always. It chilled me to the core, and I reconsidered my decision about swimming. But then I wanted something to calm my heightened senses, and I jumped in the water. The temperature then calmed down after two minutes, and I did a good twenty laps. The pool wasn't all that big, but it was a decent size nevertheless. 

And I was going to come out of the pool, had almost stepped onto the ladder, when I lost my balance and fell inside the water. And before I knew it, something pulled me down, I couldn't come outside.

I was drowning, and I knew it, but I was helpless.
