I unconsciously trailed behind doc Niko when we heard the commotion. My heart is beating wildly while making our way inside the facility.
I saw a small golden retriever whining and bleeding on the table. Staff are surrounding him while panicking. Its leg is bleeding due to the huge gnash that looked like it came from a bite. A sharp gasp escaped my lips after seeing that horrid sight. My chest tightened. I notice how doc Niko glanced at me before walking in front, covering my line of vision.
"What exactly happened?" He asked in a hurry before wearing gloves so he could check on the poor dog.
"Naglalaro lang siya sa labas nang atakihin ito ng aso na pagmamay ari ng katabing gusali."
I didn't even notice that I was holding my breath while watching. I clasped both my hands in a tight manner. The poor dog didn't know what to do! He's just laying there whimpering and whining as it limped towards doc Niko.
"Yes, don't worry. You'll be fine." He whispered comforting words to Max as if it would understand him. But surprisingly, Max calmed down a bit.
Hinayaan niya si doc Niko na gamutin siya. I watched as he cleaned the huge wound on Max's leg before bandaging it. Then he checked Max's tooth. It cracked so he had to remove it completely up until the root.
Inilipat nila si Max sa mas sterile na kuwarto bago tinurukan ni doc Niko ng sedative. Unti-unting nakatulog si Max at doon na tinanggal ang ngipin niya.

"He'll be fine after a few days of rest." I heard doc Niko's voice that brought me back to my senses. I glanced at Max and saw him sleeping. He looks fine. He will be fine naman daw. I'm glad.
"Thank you, doc Niko! Hindi namin alam kung anong gagawin namin kung wala ka rito at hindi ka nag-volunteer!" Nginitian sila nito bago kumaway. Hindi na siya kinulit pa ng mga staff at inasikaso na lang si Max.
I watch him walk over to me with both his hands inside his pockets. His deep, blue eyes stared back at me.
"You okay?" He asked me. I gave him a small smile.
"Yes... You're volunteering?"
"Yeah, I've been volunteering here for a month now." Napanganga ako habang tumatango.
"I see." I muttered. "What you did earlier was amazing."
"Thank you." He smiled at me but I looked away. Huwag mo akong ngingitian. Please lang.
