Chapter 2 ~ You are invited

Rena's POV:

    I walked along the path to the school yard where the class was taking place. Canis only attended a few years of school but due to the fact that vulpes were so smart we were required to attend until we were twenty one. Which meant I had two more years to go. As I was walking I picked a rose and put it behind my ear. "Hi Dakota ready to learn" I sarcastically yelled walking towards her. Dakota jumped probably because of her sensitive hearing and looked at me. "Rena you can't scare me like that" she groaned. "Aw c'mon Kota don't be such a wimp" I laughed. Dakota gave a small smile and followed me inside. Dakota always wore one to many pink bows along with a cactus flower behind her left ear. "Sup Scarlett" a familiar voice tapped me on the shoulder. I turned to see Casper; Dakota's older brother who was of arctic fur and had two different colored eyes. He always was annoying especially since he was near my age just a year older. Dakota told me that he liked me but I refused to believe that he's very um flirty and he's also disgusting. I hate all the male vulpes at the school and in the town in general. I want a mate but I'm not gonna just go for any guy ew. "It's Rena" I rolled my eyes and shoved him aside and walked into a run down looking classroom. The thing was that even though canis didn't even attend school that long they still got the better fucking classrooms and materials so unfair. I sat down at a filthy desk that looked as if it hadn't been washed in eons ugh. The teacher started telling us about how to control our creature urges and stuff like that. I wasn't paying much attention. At the end of the lecture she passed out pieces of paper that had fancy letters and stuff. I looked at it more closely and it had the Alpha's stamp on it. This must be one important thing. The paper read: 'Hello Forest Hollow everyone of you are cordially invited to attend this year's gala for all vulpes and canis... You must show this invitation at the front to specify you actually live in Forest Hollow. All are required by me the alpha to come to my gala if you don't there will be consequences -Alpha Howler'. I blinked twice and looked it over once more. I was invited to the palace I've never been to the palace before. Normally the gala's were held in the town square or something and the alpha himself never attended any of these parties. "Dakota, do you see this?!" I turned to her. "I know right!" Dakota tried to whisper back but the smile on her face was evident she was excited. "Weird that it's at the palace instead of the town square like usual though" I murmured. After class I began to walk back home. I saw a group of female canis chatting with one another. I turned invisible to eavesdrop on their conversation. "I'm so excited for the gala. I mean can you imagine meeting the alpha he sounds so hot" one of them whispered to the other. "I know right I heard he doesn't have a mate yet" the other chuckled. I rolled my eyes. I should've known that all girl canis cared about is the alpha. I've never even seen the dude let alone met him personally besides the palace was the perfect opportunity to get some quick cash or food either way with that many people a little heist wouldn't hurt anything. The canis stopped talking and started whispering which told me they smelled my presence. I slowly backed up and ran away at full speed not caring if they noticed me now. I paused when I realized they were chasing me. I turned visible again and transformed into my creature form. "Hey ladies wanna play catch the annoying vulpes" I flicked my tail in a taunting motion at the two. "When we catch you bitch we'll rip you to shreds" one of them growled. "Yeah but that's if you can catch me" I snickered. "Shut up and hold still," the other yelled. "Hmm make me" I laughed. Both of them looked at one another before transforming into their creature forms. I smiled and wagged my tail once more before leaping over them. Obviously angry the first canis jumped up and I'm assuming she planned to catch me but was far too slow. "Missed me" I laughed on the other side of her. My ears twitched and I saw the second canis getting rather close to me. I growled and climbed the tree I was next to. "Hey you cheated little bitch" the first canis groaned pawing at the tree trunk. "Well technically I didn't hence why I can climb you just can't" I said draping my tail over the branches. I smiled to myself as the two tried to leap up and grab it. "Well ladies this was fun but I gotta go" I waved and jumped from across the trees. I giggled to myself and noticed Dakota walking home with Casper. I jumped down and landed on her shoulder. "Hey D" I smiled. Dakota shrieked and then realized who I was. "Rena what did I tell you about scaring me" she frowned. "Just couldn't stay away from me could ya?" Casper chuckled. I growled back at him before transforming back into my bipedal form. I panted and sat down on a log. "You ok Rena you seem tired?" Dakota said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "I'm fine just angered two canis you should've seen their faces they thought they could actually catch me" I snickered. All three of us burst out laughing "Canis are so stupid" Casper laughed. "Totally I can't believe no one wants to stand up to them" I rolled my eyes. "Well it is because they have serious strength, and power" Dakota blew her hair out of her face. "Well yeah but that's just because of their strength in numbers I bet I could take down one or two" I boasted. "Well that's cause you have the weather powers of a canis" Dakota twisted her hair between her fingers. "Dakota you're doing it again" Casper remarked. "Doing what?" Dakota turned to her brother. "Whenever you get stressed or nervous you twist and play with your hair" I replied. "I know I'm just a little scared to go to the palace. I mean anything could go wrong" Dakota frowned. "It's alright we'll be by your side right Casper" I smiled at her. "Oh um I'm gonna find some hot girls to hang out with but you can do whatever you want" Casper smirked. I shoved my elbow into his side making him groan in pain and glare at me. "Yeah whatever I'll be here for you whenever you need" Casper growled rubbing his side. Dakota smiled "Thanks Rena". I hugged her back "Of course what else are friends for". I finally arrived back home and went to my room. I went to the window and stared outside for a few seconds. I looked up at the huge palace that I would soon be going into in a few nights. Was I nervous of course I was I definitely didn't want to bump into the royal family chances are they hated vulpes as much as every other canis did... I sighed and transformed into my creature form it was a comfier way to sleep. I curled up in my circular bed and went to sleep. My eyes fluttered open and I looked at a picture frame; It had me, my mom, and my dad. My dad is a canis and my mom is a vulpes. If you thought vulpes were treated badly then you should see how inter-species are treated. I was bullied throughout my first years of school and I realized that I had to hide my identity. My closest friends are the only people in the whole town besides my mom who knows my actual genetics. But being half canis has its perks that's for sure. I can control the weather but I try not to so no one knows that I am half canis. I am stronger than normal vulpes that's for sure. I have the speed of a canis and vulpes making me practically have super speed. I have the same red fur as my mom but I'm also of grey fur like my dad whom I haven't seen in years. In fact my dad left my mom when he found out she became pregnant. The most embarrassing part was I was conceived for a dare. From what I heard my dad's friends dared him to sleep with a vulpes and he did. Unfortunately that one night stand left me the half vulpes and half canis as the aftermath. Sometimes I hate myself just because I'm half dirty, filthy, ugly, annoying, rude, disrespectful canis. But I can't exactly change my genes myself otherwise I totally would though hiding my identity is quite simple. I just have a strand of grey hair I have to hide behind my ears or just tell everyone I'm of island fur. I yawned and stretched before closing my eyes at last. I couldn't stop thinking about the gala. It was two nights away.
