Chapter 6 ~ Accidental meeting

Howler's POV:

I yawned and looked around. It took me a minute to realize I was still in the medicine room next to Echo. I titled my head when I realized the bed was empty. It was a shock at first but I decided to follow her scent. I walked along the hallway and found Echo on the balcony of our parents room. None of us had touched that door handle since they died but here she was just looking out at the town. I decided not to say anything and walked towards her. She had a white bandage on her side and other than a few scratches on her face she looked completely fine. I walked up to her and laid my hands on the stone wall guarding the rim of the balcony. "Hey" I started. "Hey" Echo whispered. "So what's wrong?" I asked her. She sighed but didn't reply. "I asked what's wrong?" I repeated. "Nothing, I just wish I knew them more- you knew them for five years longer than I did" Echo sighed. It didn't take a genius to figure out what she was talking about. "I can't turn back time but I wish mom lived longer too" I sighed. "That canis- the one that killed mom.. He was the same one who tried to murder me last night" Echo breathed. "Really? How do you know?" Now I was curious. "He told me when I arrived at the festival that I was just as stupid as my mom was... I was lured there by him. He did something to my head. I don't know what... But it was as if he was forcing thoughts into my head" Echo murmured. I looked at her and sighed. "I don't exactly know much about him either, just that he's been a prisoner for years... We tried to get more information from him but that canis would take his secrets to the grave". "I'm not sure he was a canis I know it sounds stupid but he really had abilities I've never seen any other canis have" Echo fiddled with her hair. Just as I was going to reply, Apollo; my personal bodyguard rushed in the room. "Speak" I waved my hand. "We found out more about the prisoner. He's dead but we found out he may have a daughter... She reportedly lives in the town sir" Apollo bowed his head. "Come with me we go at once" I gruffly responded. I immediately started off down the hall. "Major, keep an eye on Echo, make sure she stays here" I commanded to my war general. "Yes sir," Major nodded. I burst through the palace doors and transformed into my creature form before sprinting down the hill. I stopped at a stone apartment building and knocked on the first door. "Stay here," I said to Apollo. Apollo nodded and walked away from the building. "Coming" A female voice said from inside. I couldn't help but feel her voice was the slightest bit familiar. An orange haired vulpes opened the door. "Hello alpha what do I owe the pleasure" The woman nodded. "I came to ask about a man called Titan Lupus. I was wondering if you know anything about him," I growled. "I haven't heard that name in years" the woman murmured under her breath. "Nonetheless come in your majesty" she waved her hand inside. I walked in and sat down on the couch. "Rena we have a special visitor get him something to drink please" the woman called. "Sure thing!" A very familiar voice called from the other room. The same girl I saw that night from the gala came out from the kitchen carrying a platter of drinks. She practically dropped them when she saw I was sitting here. "W- why is he here!" Rena stuttered. "He wants to know about Titan Lupus," the woman, who I assumed was Rena's mother, replied. "I know it's none of my business but is your sister alright I saw yesterday what happened and now that you bring up Titan I think I know what happened" Rena spoke so fast I barely could understand her. "Um yes thank you for asking" I blinked twice. "Anyway here's your drink sorry I don't have anything more fancy for the alpha-" Rena blushed. I think my face was turning red itself but I tried to act like I didn't notice. "So about Titan do you two know anything about him?" I asked once more. Both looked at one another and sighed. "Titan Lupus was my husband... or at the very least my boyfriend he manipulated me into having sex with him and I later found out he only did so for a dare. He faked his love for me and as soon as I admitted I was pregnant he cut off all communications with me. Yes he is a canis and I am a vulpes..." Rena's mom replied. "I never met my father, I just heard he became a savage... You know what that is right?" Rena looked at me. "I'm afraid I've never heard the term no," I replied. "Well basically a savage is a canis or a vulpes who's bipedal form is practically dead; they can't transform out of their creature forms and become a killing machine... It's different from the lack of meat though. A savage will purposely use their abilites and skills to murder very specfic people in this case your mother and your sister. There is no known cure for a savage but they are very deadly... In fact rumor has it a clan of savages live deep in the forest waiting to strike and kill everyone" Rena smiled. I couldn't see how she was still smiling since that made me a little uneasy but I shook it off nonetheless. "Thank you for that. I appreciate your knowledge. I'm afraid I must go now" I got up and began to walk out. "Wait!" Rena looked at me. I turned around and her orange eyes caught my attention. "Yes?" I asked. "Would you like to have lunch or something with me sometime?" Rena nervously asked me. I paused. I had never been asked out before. I had only been around girls who wanted me for my power, not me. "Um I don't mind it" I looked away from her so she couldn't see my face. Rena's tail wagged and she practically jumped up in the air "Is this half moon fine" she smiled. "Yes" I quickly replied before walking out. As I was walking back up the hill Apollo looked at me. "Did you get the information you needed?" He asked. "Yes, the girl was quite helpful. I'm seeing her again this half moon for more info" I lied. "Ok that's good" Apollo looked puzzled but I wasn't about to let him in on the real reason. Cobalt met me at the front door "I was waiting for you, tell me what's up". "Oh I was just finishing business I needed to know more about Titan Lupus" I replied. "Ok yeah I knew that but you gotta tell me what else you can't lie to me Howler" Cobalt smiled. "I'm not lying," I quickly replied. "Yeah but you didn't tell me everything," Cobalt smirked. "Fine" I growled and pulled him aside. "I have a date... this half moon I'm meeting Rena y'know the girl I told you about at the gala" I smiled. "Really you're dating a vulpes?" Cobalt cocked his head to the side. "No technically not she's a mixed breed... Her father was Titan Lupus and her mother is a vulpes" I sheepishly replied. "Really? That's kinda cool" Cobalt chuckled. "How's Echo doing?" I asked, trying to change the subject. "She's doing fine, we ate lunch together while you were gone" Cobalt blushed. "So you went on a date?" I snickered. "No, not a date, just a y'know thing she was there and I just went into the dining room and we coincidentally came at the same time" Cobalt's face turned bright red. "Ok sure" I smirked.
