Chapter 1. Strangers In The Night
Orlando stepped out of his trailer into the waning light of another beautiful New Zealand evening. It felt so good to shed the wig and ears of the elf after sweating for hours under the hot sun doing reshoots for the Rings trilogy. It had been a year since the initial wrap of the Movies, four since the beginning of the shoot for the whole Rings trilogy and back then he'd had almost no hair at all. With a crooked smirk the young Brit thoughtfully ran a hand through his now thick, dark brown, curly mop of hair that reached almost shoulder length. Yes, things had changed a lot since then, he thought to himself as he walked over to his car which was practically the last one in the lot. He and Viggo were deeply involved now. What had started out as a close friendship, over the months of filming scenes together, had turned into more.....much more. Now he couldn't imagine a life without the Dane in his bed.
He sighed as he fumbled his keys out of his jeans pocket, swearing under his breath as they clattered to the ground bouncing out of sight under the car. Again with a long list of uttered expletives, Orli dropped to his hands and knees and started patting blindly in the dark shadow of the car's undercarriage. After a few moments of frustration, his fingers bumped the cold metal ring and he quickly grasped them. With a relieved sigh, he quickly got to his feet and flipping to the right key, slid it home into the lock and turned it open with a distinctive click. He honestly didn't see why he bothered with locking the thing. It was a rental, nothing expensive. He had a shitload of insurance to cover his ass if anything happened to it. He pulled the door open and slid in behind the wheel. A wide grin crossed his lips when he put the key into the ignition and turned the engine over without any mishap. At least with locking the car, he didn't have to deal with any possibility of finding the engine dead and the distributor cap missing. Elijah and Dom were forever sabotaging the vehicle which, on occasion, left him stranded to sleep half assed in the back seat until the next morning, giving his make-up artist a lot to work with, or forcing him to catch a ride with another cast member or the crew. Oh, but he and Beanie had gotten even with them. It was amazing how a simple job of nailing a few pairs of sneakers to the floor could wreak such havoc amongst the hobbits, not to mention a swap of pants being at least a few sizes too small for the intended owner's waist. Yes, he had gotten quite even thank you very much. But what had put an end to it all and forced Orli to start locking his car religiously, was the fact that he'd come out one evening and found honey smeared throughout the entire inside of his first rental. First, being the key word here. He'd had a hell of the time cleaning it up even remotely to its former state since the hot New Zealand sun did such a fine job of practically baking the honey into a rather thick and more than sticky ooze that rivaled the adhesive power of the strongest bottle of crazy glue. Nope, he thought as he pulled the driver's door shut, he did not regret locking his car now.
Orli pulled the car onto the back grid that took him down a remote area not far from the highway. It was a short cut to Viggo's place cutting at least ten to fifteen minutes off the drive than if he'd taken the highway. Despite Viggo's concerns and constant warnings of not taking this route, when alone, because of the remote layout of the road and there not being another residence in sight for miles, being as tired as he was, and wanting desperately to be with his lover as often as possible, Orlando threw caution to the wind and made his way down the grid that eventually turned into a winding dirt path that became more and more closed in by tall grass shouldering the road and trees obscuring anything that could possibly be in the ditches....... Perhaps he'd have changed his mind if he had noticed that as soon as he'd left the secured parking lot a black van had started to follow from a distance.
