The morning sunlight cast an aesthetic glow around Genevieves room.
In the middle if the room sat the girl herself, with soft brown waves of hair falling down her back. She sat hunched over her desk, scribbling furiously her replies to her best friends. Evan Rosier. Barty Crouch. And Regulus Black.
Regulus was a year younger, beginning Hogwarts the same time the older three began their second year. But it doesn't matter, because the group of four got along fantasticly and hardly ever fought.
"Genevieve!" Her mother's sharp voice distracted her from her letter.
"What?" She yelled back.
Ever since September 1st, 1971, her mother and father grew distant from Genevieve. Only speaking to her when absolutely necessary. She had broken the family tradition by being sorted into slytherin, and her parents were not at all pleased.
"Your letter had arrived!"
"Fantastic." She muttered to herself and she exited her room.
Genevieve reached the bottom of the staircase where her mother was waiting with her hand outstretched, the Hogwarts seal clear on the envelope.
"Thanks." She said and went up the stairs again.
The letter felt a bit heavier than it did the previous four years, and Geneviève was shocked when she opened it. Inside the envelope was a second letter, and a green and silver Prefect badge.
"What the fuck?" She whispered to herself.
She pulled out the letter and began to read,
Ms Fawley,
I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected for a Slytherin Prefect this hear. Inside the envelope you should find your badge.
There will be a meeting on the train to get to know the people you will be working with for the following year, and to discuss nightly patrols and check ins with the Head Boy and Girl.
Best of wishes for the following year,
H. Slughorn"What the fuck?" Geneviève repeated to herself.
Truly she didn't understand how she got it. Ever since first year she had gotten countless detentions, stolen, vandalized and fought at school. Mainly to try earn attention from her parents, who had taken to neglecting her ever since they received the letter she was a Slytherin. If you couldn't tell, it hasn't worked yet.
Immediately Geneviève pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill, beginning her letter to her very best friend, Evan Rosier.
Evan,
Something terrible has happened! I have received a letter from old sluggy, and do you know what he told me?
I am a PREFECT! How outrageous is this!?
Unbelievable, despicable, please tell me you also received the dreaded badge, because I couldn't handle it if anyone else got the spot, I wouldn't be able to deal with them and there bullshit.
If you were wondering why this is such an awful thing to happen, it means they expect to me follow the rules! How can I go about my entire LIFE, if I'm stuck being a party pooper Prefect?
I can't.
Your very distressed friend, Gen
Genny,
Never begin your letters to me like that ever again. I just lost five years of my life. I was prepared to flu to your house right away..... Until I continued reading.
As for the badge, I have no idea how you got it either, but yes, I did receive the 'dreaded' badge as well. So no you don't have to deal with anyone else's bull shit but mine.
You can still go about your entire life being a PREFECT, it just means less chance of getting caught! More access to places. Staying out past curfew with a reason.
Think of all the possibilities!
You'll be fine, you have me. Let's just pray the other houses Prefects aren't stupid stuck up pricks, because life really will have no more meaning.
Your bestest friend, Evan
Evan,
No I didn't think of the possibilities, this won't be so bad after all.
And if the other houses Prefects are stuck up pricks, I WILL throw a bat-bogey hex at them. I'm quite skilled at those don't you think?
See you on the train tomorrow
Gen
