Soon your first field mission would commence, and all the Cadets were eager to leave the walls. The danger and thrill of the expedition brought forth mixed emotions.

Most of the new recruits had never seen a Titan and had no concept of the horrors that awaited them; but you did. In fact, everyone at your table sat tense with the memories of Shiganshina. Sipping a glass of whisky, it couldn't be helped thinking back to the moment your whole life changed:

Your mother clutched your infant sister tight to her chest, pulling you through rubble and blood. You tugged your brother closely behind; hands clasped. Screams echoed all around as everyone you once knew was being devoured. Suddenly, you crashed to the ground. Hand slipping out from your mother's, the softness of her skin tickled your fingertips till they parted. Half-eaten carcass beneath you, the blood of a stranger drenched your clothes. Looking down in horror, screams filled your throat. Brian scrambled to stifle your cries, but the titans had already been alerted. The ground shook as three large titans peeked their heads around the buildings, locking on your location. One of them was different from the others. Skin of coal and embers. Heat radiated off the titan's giant body, your flesh blistered at a distance. It reached down and grabbed your mother, red eyes focused on the thrashing woman as she screamed out for her husband. In an instant, she burst into flames, her body turning bright as the sun. The charred bundle of your infant sister fell to the earth.

"Cadet Taitus."

The Captain's pale gray eyes leaned heavy on you as he tapped his foot. It wasn't entirely clear how long he had been standing there but based off his expression it was safe to say too long for his liking.

"It's time to move."

The ice in his glass tumbled towards his lips as he took a sip. There was a rumor among the Scouts that the Captain couldn't get drunk. Some say they witnessed him polish off a bottle of whiskey then take out a titan with perfect precision, but that was hearsay. There was another rumor the Captain had never been with a woman, this was a far more believable speculation. What woman would want to be with a man like him?

Not me, that's for damn sure.

You shook your head briskly. Avoiding eye contact, your cheeks crimsoned. It was disconcerting that he chose to approach you while you were sitting with your friends.

"Sir, what do you mean by move?" Armin's soft blue eyes looked confused at his Captain.

"Good. A volunteer. Armin, help Cadet Taitus move to her new bunk."

Armin saluted,

"Y-yes sir."

Levi raised his glass, giving you a nod before walking away.

"Wanna let me in on what's going on?", Eren looked bewildered.

"I've been ordered to move to the men's barracks..."
