The train was full of chattering voices and the loud whirl of its mechanics, yet it could not have felt more silent. It was odd, but Kokichi had not been in his apartment that morning, nor had Kaito seen him on his way to the subway. It was their usual time to be heading to work together, so where was he? Kaito just had to chalk it up to his new duties as Captain, lest he fall prone to worrying about the gremlin.
He sighed listlessly as the announcement of his destination played. It was so boring. He hoped whatever case he would be working on would be chocked full of mystery and intrigue, or maybe just getting to work with his partner. It had been so long since they took a case together. Approaching the station however, he was immediately sent into an uneasy feeling, noticing an odd ambiance coming from its interior. He entered the the door warily, hoping to Atua whatever he was feeling was a simple misunderstanding on his subconscious' part.
He knew he was wrong when he opened the door, met with the far-too familiar sight of panicked officers rushing around the room, he gave them all curious eyes, yet no one seemed to notice his presence. How strange... He kept walking into the office, opening his mouth to get their attention but snapped it shut immediately,
Because where Miu should have been sitting and talking in that far too blunt way, was her pale, pained corpse.
Blue lips, wide eyes, hands looped into her small black choker as if grasping for air. It sent ice down Kaito's veins, mind erupting into speeds a mile a minute, unable to process opening. Only now, when he could bring himself to say nothing, did everyone notice his presence.
"W-W-" He had nothing to say, eyes darting between Tsumugi, Himiko, Tenko, Gonta, Shuichi, and... Kokichi.
All of their eye's held pity and concern, but only Kokichi approached him,
"So you finally arrived."
"Miu... what... what happened to Miu?"
"I don't know, you tell me," Tenko sneered.
"What?"
"Enough Tenko," Shuichi snapped, a glare on his face that Kaito had never seen, "I'm telling you he didn't do it!"
"Wait- WAIT," Kaito screamed, "She's dead?!"
"Murdered," Kokichi said with a shrug, "Just another murder in the precinct, you know how it is."
"This- this can't be happening again..." Kaito thought he had recovered, but he was starting to feel sick again.
Tsumugi covered a mouth with her hand, shaking sporadically, "But it did... it happened again..."
"We aren't safe here!" Tenko exclaimed, "I bet all the women are targets!"
"Nyeh? Just the women?"
"Does that mean Gonta safe?"
"No you're death just doesn't matter!"
"Tenko! Don't say that about sweet little Gonta-"
"ENOUGH ALL OF YOU!"
Everyone fell silent at the raise of Kokichi's voice, eyes burning into each of their forms, "Shut up with this stupid bickering, we've had a death among our own kind, and if you're gonna sit here blabbering like fools rather than fucking working than none of you deserve to be in this office!"
Shame fell over all there faces, surprisingly even Tenko's. Kokichi sighed, turning back to Kaito with a glare still resting on his face, "The time of death has to be about 9 p.m., last night. Her body was discovered by- well- all of us after we came back to the precinct last night. Cause of death looks like poison from what we found around her, but we can't confirm any of this without forensics. That's all we know so far."
