Mina felt awful. The last day at the Im's had been tense, with Nayeon barely speaking to her. She had tried to talk to Nayeon a couple times, but the older girl would just mumble about having to help her mom in the kitchen and then exit the room. They had said some sorrowful goodbyes at the airport, although the Im's assumed they would be seeing each other again at the wedding so they thought nothing of it. Mina saw the flight as an opportunity to talk to the girl, and she wasn't planning on taking no for an answer.
"Nayeon, please," Mina started as they stood in the line for airport security.
"I get it, you don't want to be with me, you didn't have to kiss her."
"That's not fair and you know it. I didn't think she would kiss me, I didn't want it, and the second it happened I pushed her away."
"That doesn't negate the fact that I had to see it happen and now I've got this ache in my chest and it won't go away."
"I'm sorry, Nayeon. I don't know what else to say because it really wasn't my fault."
"Ugh, I know. And this would be easier to be mad at you if you had kissed her back and wanted it. It just really, really hurts."
"That really makes sense. It really caught me off guard, and if I had known she was going to kiss me I would've stopped it."
"Even though we aren't together?"
"Even though we aren't together. I still really care about you, this is something that would hurt anyone so of course I wouldn't want to hurt you." Mina thought back to what had happened after the kiss.
"Tzuyu, what the hell?" Mina had yelled as she pushed the younger girl away. She had been cheering for Nayeon, who had been so cute on this ladder game, until Tzuyu had said her name. When she turned her face to respond, the Chinese girl had kissed her. Looking over at Nayeon, who had once looked victorious but was now feigning excitement. The difference was small, but Mina had been with her for long enough to know this had been hurt the girl.
"Well, you're not together anymore, I thought that's why you wanted to meet up?"
"You're my friend? I wanted to see you and catch up? That's all??"
"Wait, really?"
"Yes, Tzuyu. Things are complicated with me and Nayeon, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to move on."
"I... I'm sorry, Mina. I just thought-"
"You thought wrong, Tzuyu," Mina had finished coldly, walking over to the Im sisters collecting their prizes.
Mina had been the one to break up with Nayeon. Her initial reason had been boredom and feeling like their relationship had just fizzled out. She still loved Nayeon, but it felt more like love for a friend than a girlfriend. She was sure there was more to it, but she hadn't really been able to dig into it with her busy class schedule. While she had been in the bath tub, she had started unpacking some of her reasons.
Mina knew she hadn't been giving this relationship her all, she simply didn't have it in her. She still wasn't entirely sure why. And part of her wasn't sure if she should keep trying since recently all she did with Nayeon was fight. The difference between her and Nayeon was that she would go hide after these fights, and the older girl would come back with tea, cookies, a letter. Nayeon was clearly going the extra mile and Mina knew she was not. So, she decided to free the older girl and work some things out on her own. That didn't mean she wanted to date anyone though.
Nayeon's scoff brought Mina back to reality.
"Next," the security guard called, waving them over to check their tickets and passports.
