WESSEX
It's time for Alfred's coronation in the great hall. Both Eadwynn and Aethelreda are present but they're not standing next to eachother. Aethelreda stands next to Aelswith, Alfred's wife.
Eadwynn feel she doesn't wanna disrespect the queen by standing close to her, so she is standing a few steps away from them.
Alfred walks in, a priest walks before him. He walks to the middle of a room where a bishop stands. Next to them stands Beocca. It still makes Eadwynn angry to see him, he lied to her.
Eadwynn sees Aethelwold not standing far from her. At the same it feels weird they're not bethrothed anymore, she's relieved. She knows their marriage would've been miserable.
"Our god in his heaven. We ask you to find favor with your devoted servant Alfred. Bless him with courage, strength, wisdom. Never leave his side, amen." The bishop speaks.
"Amen" Everyone replies. Eadwynn looks back a second and sees Uhtred and smiles. It's nice to have her brother back but she also feel like she is looking at a stranger.
"Allow him pure and holy thoughts. And the power to carry out your work on this earth as our king. Allow this anointing of Alfred to enable your will. You are god's king Alfred of Wessex. Vivat Rex Alfredus" The Bishop speaks out.
"Vivat Rex Alfredus" Everyone speaks aloud back and keeps repeating it.
Alfred turns around. Eadwynn can just smile, she's so proud of him. She knows he's gonna be a great king. She just wishes she could be his queen.
Beocca give Alfred his spear and The bishop put the crown on Alfred's head.
They're now gonna soon leave to camp out in the woods. Alfred and Uhtred is gonna meet up with Guthrum, a dane.
Eadwynn decided to go and pray before they left. And of course when she walks in to pray she is sees Beocca standing there. Just when she decides to turn around, he has already seen her.
"Eadwynn?" She sighes, apart of her wants to curse but she is in gods halls.
"Please, can we talk?" Beocca asks her, walking closer to her.
She doesn't look at him. "I don't wanna speak with you. I just wanna pray"
Beocca nods "That's good and i know you're mad at me but please i just want a few minutes with you"
Eadwynn sighes and turns around to look at him. "Fine. You get five minutes"
Beocca nods. He looks around at everyone else in the room "Leave us" All the nuns walks out.
Eadwynn and Beocca sits down on one of the benches.
Eadwynn looks at him with tears in her eyes. "
Why didn't you tell me about Uhtred. You lied to me for 7 years. And you know i would have never told him."
Uhtred sighes "I did it to protect him."
Eadwynn looks at him with tears streaming down her face. "But what about me? He made my life a living hell. And you knew i would never tell him so i don't understand..." In that moment Eadwynn looks at Beocca and relaises something.
She gasps. "You didn't tell me because you thought i would tell him. But because you were worried that if any change he would have heard it from someone else. He would have used me as a bait to bring Uhtred back. So all this time you have protected me and in the end you did save me"
Beocca nods and takes her hands in his own. "Yes. And if i knew from the beginning that your uncle was gonna do that to you. I would have brought you to Wessex with me when i left. I am so sorry Eadwynn"
Eadwynn sniffles and tries to hold her tears inside and jumps into his arms. "Thank you, for everything"
Beocca smiles and pulls away "Can i pray with you?"
Eadwynn smiles "Yes you can" They sit down and starts praying.
Aethelreda was walking in the gardens when suddenly she feel someone pulling her to side.
She gets ready to hit the person but when she looks and sees who it is, she sighes in relief.
"Leofric it's you. I was worried it was someone else"
He smiles "I have missed this with you"
Aethelreda takes her arms around his neck "I have missed this too"
They both lean in and kiss. Aethelreda pull away after a few seconds.
"I'm glad we took a break for a bit but god how i have missed you"
Leofric smiles "You will have no need to miss me from now on."
He pulls her closer to his chest but Aethelreda stops him for a second
"Wait. Can someone see us" Leofric shakes her head.
"No worries. This is our spot. No one can see us"
Aethelreda relaises it and smiles "You're right.
She cups his face with her hands and pulls him into a kiss.
She has really missed his touch.
WILTON, WESSEX
They are now in the woods, they have set camp. Uhtred, Aethelreda, Alfred and the others in the council are waiting for Guthrum and his men to arrive.
Alfred and Aethelreda comes were the others are standing and sees a group of men on horses marching in.
"It is Guthrum?" Alfred asks Uhtred.
Uhtred nods "Yes. You can see a bone in his hair. It's his mother's rib"
Aethelreda looks at Uhtred shocked. That's not something you hear every day.
"How endearing." Alfred answers. He looks at Uhtred "And the others?"
"It's Ubba. The big man" Uhtred answers.
"Cheiftain Ubba is with them?" Alfred asks to be sure.
Uhtred is confused "You said he was in the north?"
Aethelreda takes a deep breath "Now he's here"
Alfred nods "This is good" He shows Aethelreda to follow him so she does.
This changes things. But she doesn't understand why her brother think it's good"
Her first political meeting with danes.
