"That was awesome!" I exclaimed, laughing, "You were right."
He grinned at me and said,
"You totally cheated in laser tag." He accused with a twinkle in his eye.
I gasped, "Well, you stole my popcorn during the movie!"
"Only because you knocked me off course when we were Go-karting!"
We glared at each other then bursted into laughter.
We were in his car at the front of my house as we reminisced the fun day we had. It had taken my mind off what happened at school.
"The name's Helen, by the way. I can't believe we totally had that fun day without me telling you my name." I chuckled.
He smiled. "Helen. I like it."
I giggled, "My friends call me Zephr. Or Zeph for short."
But he shook his head. "I like Helen."
I shrugged. "Thanks for the fun day Ethan. I really needed that." I said softly.
"I had fun too." He told me.
After a while, he sighed. "I need to get going." He told me.
I blinked, "Oh, okay."
He groaned and said, "I'll see you later, kay?"
I nodded and got out of the car, waving until he disappeared down the street.
I walked to the doorway of my house and as  I unlocked it, my mind went back to what happened in school. No doubt, Caleb had probably told our siblings what happened.
I entered my room and went into the shower. Coming out a few minutes later, I looked at myself in my full length mirror. Maybe Terri was right. Maybe I was insignificant.
Biting my lip, I shook my head. I shouldn't think those thoughts. Bad Helen. But even then the bad thoughts kept coming. My breathing became laboured and my chest was getting tighter. I was having an attack. I  fell to the floor unable to move and get my inhaler in my backpack.
Tears streamed down my face and I was getting more scared because no one was home. I was gonna die alone.
Someone bursted into my room and I heard them call my name. The person shuffled around in my room and then something got stuffed into my mouth.
"Just breathe. It's okay, I'm here." The person soothed
I got pulled into their lap as my inhaler was pumped for me and started rocking me.
"That's it. It's alright." Zion, whose voice I now recognised, said to me.
He buried his nose into my hair and kept rocking me. A few minutes passed and my sobs reduced to sniffles. Zion pulled away but I clung to him. He carried me to my bed and laid with me.
"Wanna talk about it?" He asked when I shifted away from him but held his hand.
"Just thinking." I said.
He nodded and smiled at me. I smiled back.
He wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead.
"I know you're not alright right now," he started, caressing my arms, "but it'll get better. I promise."
I nodded and snuggled into him.
After a moment of silence he said:
"I always knew he was a douchebag."
I laughed and he joined in. We stayed in silence and enjoyed each other's company.
After a while, I fell asleep.
