I stayed locked up in my room, greiving over the guy I'd come to like over two months.
At first, dating Corey was just an opportunity to get rid of the crush I've had on another guy since forever.
But over the two months I'd been with him, I had started to actually like him a little bit.
Corey had betrayed the trust I had in our relationship by cheating on me and that wasn't okay.
I ate the stash of snacks and candy (that my dad would kill me if he ever found it) and ignored the calls of my brothers.
I switched off my phone and laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling and thinking about life.
I hated myself for letting a guy, who I didn't even like all that much, make me like this. I sighed and my mind drifted off to the stranger at the park.
Ethan.
Who was he? His name sounded familiar but I didn't think too much about it. He probably had one of those names that seemed familiar. Deciding not to think about it anymore, I drifted off to sleep.
Sleeping through most of the weekend and occasionally waking up to eat my secret stash of snacks (or SSS for short), Monday came by quickly.
I woke up surrounded by wrappers of the snacks I ate and streched. I looked at the anime clock on my wall and seeing it was still 5:42, I cleaned up, had a shower, brushed my teeth and dressed up for school. I switched my phone back on and covered my ears as the avalanche of chirps and vibrations began.
Sighing, I looked at the notifications and saw I had 50 missed calls and over a hundred texts. I rolled my eyes mentally as I marked them all as read.
I unlocked my room door, grabbing my backpack on the way, and went out, only to bump into Zeke, my older brother, sleeping on the floor.
Nudging him with my foot, I called out "Zeke," my voice raspy from not using it in a while and from all the crying.
He woke up with a start, looking around like a crazed animal.
"Zephr," he remarked "You're finally out, huh?"
I shrugged and said "Hello to you too." as I walked past him.
"Zephr!" He yelled and I ignored him, going downstairs.
As I got to the dining room, my brothers snd dad stopped what they were doing and stared at me.
"Morning" I greeted, grabbing an apple from the fruit basket.
"Zephy," my dad called out softly, "Is everything okay?"
I stopped mid-bite and thought. Was I actually okay? I didn't even know.
"Zeph," Caleb sighed when I shrugged. Caleb was closer to me in age, being 17 and usually hung out with the guys with me.
"You locked yourself up in your room throughout the weekend-"
" -and we were worried." The twins, Hayden started with Jaiden finishing as usual.
"Let's just calm down." I heard a voice say and a sense of calm washed over me as an arm circled round my waist.
Sighing in relief, I looked at him gratefully. Zion smiled at me and whispered, "You're so getting it later."
I pouted while he just chuckled and greeted my family.
"Zion, how are you?" My dad asked him, with a twinkle in his eye. My dad was pretty fond of Zion and was always happy when he came over.
"I'm good sir." Zion answered.
"I told you," my dad groaned, "Just call me Phillip."
Zion grinned "Maybe next time sir."
I smiled when my dad shook his head at him.
"I'll tell you what happened later, I promise. I'm just not ready yet." I told my family as I kissed each of them on the cheek. "Talk to you guys later kay?"
I heard a chorus of 'Bye Zeph's and 'We'll talk later's as I dragged Zion out of the house.
Once we got to his car and were all buckled up, all Zion did was grab my arm and examined it. He looked at me strangely and I just gave him a smile. He opened his mouth but I interrupted him by saying:
"I'm not ready yet."
He gave me a look but thankfully dropped the matter.
We got to school soon after and I quickly got out of the car and ran to my homeroom.
I had history and study period before lunch, neither with any of the boys-which for once I was grateful for. I didn't want to see them incase they had heard the rumour of Terri and Cory and wanted to ask me. I didn't want to talk about it yet. At some point I saw Terri laughing with Corey but didn't bother. She could keep him. My two classes passed by in a blur and soon it was lunch.
As I came out of the library, I heard my name being called out and I turned to see Zion and the guys along with Caleb's girlfriend Abby who couldn't come to the party because of babysitter duties.
"Hey girl," Abby greeted, "Where you been?"
"She's avoiding us." Zion answered before I could and I gave him look. He stuck his tongue out at me.
Rick raised an eyebrow "Is it cause you left the party early? Don't worry we don't mind, right guys?"
The guys murmured their agreement and I decided to roll with that excuse while mentally thanking God they hadn't heard the rumour.
"Yeah, sorry guys." I apologised.
Won slung his arm around me and said "It's all good, don't worry."
As we walked into the cafeteria, our path was blocked by Corey.
"Let's talk." He demanded.
I raised an eyebrow, tired of his crap and answered "No."
As I moved to walk past him, he grabbed my arm. Smacking his arm away, Zion got in his face;
"She said she doesn't want to talk to you."
"Oh, yeah," Corey sneered, "What are you gonna do about it freak?"
I rolled my eyes and said "Enough. I have nothing to say to you Corey."
My friends and I then walked past him to our usual seats, ignoring his pleas.
"What was that about?" Peter murmured but I just shook my head. When we got our lunch, Zac, Rick's boyfriend and Caleb were already seated.
My friends started talking about the new chemistry teacher (He's an android, I tell you!An android!) when a shadow fell on us.
I looked up and my mood took a complete dive. Terri.
"Hiya guys!" She squealed.
We stared blankly at her. When we didn't respond she cleared her throat and turned to Zion.
"Hey Zion," she purred and touched his chest.
Standing up,I slapped her hand away and spat, "If I ever see your hand on my friend again, I swear, I'll cut it off and feed it to the lions at the zoo!"
She gasped and held her hand. Then suddenly she smirked,
"Aww look at the little slut, trying to act all high and mighty. Are you sure you're not just jealous because Corey finally realized what an insignificant little insect you are and moved on to me?!"
I felt blood drain out of my face as I glanced to see whether my friends heard that.
They did. And so did the entire cafeteria.
Abby's eyes were wide when she asked, "What did you say?"
Terri's grin went even wider.
"Oh she didn't tell you? Corey hooked up with me at the party."
I gritted my teeth as my friends looked at me.
"Zeph..." Zion whispered.
I glared at Terri.
"You can keep him for all I care. I never liked him much anyways. In fact you match. A cheater and a slut." I spat, grabbing my bag and running out of the cafeteria.
Running until I reached the parking lot, I stopped and sat on a nearby bench, wiping at the angry tears on my face. The bell rang signifying the end of lunch but I still sat there. Next period was chemistry with the guys but I didn't want to face them yet. Especially Zion.
I sighed and heard an echoing sigh from beside me. I looked to my side and almost had a heart attack.
Ethan glanced at me and smiled, "Hey, I knew it was you."
"What are you doing here?!" I almost screamed, "Are you stalking me?!"
"Stalking? Pshh. I was taking a drive and I saw you running out, which by the way, you're really fast, so I came to talk to you."
He stated.
After a while he asked quietly, "Are you okay?"
I hesitated then said, "You know that thing I told you last time?"
"About your boyfriend cheating on you?"
I nodded. "Yeah. My friends found out today. I kinda don't want to face them so I'm skipping."
He was quiet for a while. Then he said-
"Let's go somewhere."
He pulled on my arm but I was wary.
"Where?" I asked.
He shrugged, still pulling on my arm.
"Where the wind takes us."
"I don't know..." I hesitated.
"Don't worry. It'll be awesome." He said.
Biting my lip, I nodded, giving in and allowing him to take me to his car.
