Just Like The Movies

Chapter 1

   Crap, Crap, Crap! I threw the last bit of eyeliner I had left into the trashcan next to me. I stared into the mirror judging my own makeup job. I missed a spot. "MOM!" Can't she hear me? "MOOOM!" I heard someone walking to the door and it quickly swung open. "Are you okay?!" I Looked at her and smiled. She knew immediately what I wanted and walked out of my room. I sat there for a few moments before she walked back in with her eyeliner. "I'll give it back when I'm done, I promise!" She gave me a cold look but left to finish dinner. She left the door open, so I got up and closed it behind her. I sat back down and quickly finished putting on eyeliner. As soon as I finished, I turned on my crimping iron and rushed to get dressed. I facetimed May and grabbed some clothes from my closet. She answered within 2 rings. "Hey! Ready for tonight?" Her voice sounded the same as it did in person. "Hi! Not really... I'm changing now." She narrowed her eyebrows, "Well, hurry up! I want to get there early." "I know, I know. I'm trying. But I need helping to pick out an outfit." Her face lit up when she heard that. "Show me what you got!" I showed her three outfits I picked out. "Definitely the second one." "Really? It's not too much?" She nodded left and right. "Girl not at all! Now hurry up!" She hung up on me, so I went and got dressed. The outfit was comfy but cute. Ripped jeans, an oversized tee, a few bracelets, and a necklace.

   I ran to check if the crimping iron was ready to use. It was, so I picked the size of crimp I wanted and did that quickly. I chose the biggest waves I could. It was natural looking which is what I was going for. I left my room and went to check if my mom had finished cooking. "It smells amazing mom!" She turned and smiled. I grabbed 2 plates. My dad is out of town for work right now so it's just us tonight. "Thanks Ali." "Yup!" I finished my food fast so I could head out. "Thanks mom! I'm headed to the town fair with some friends!" "Alright! Be home by 12 please." I gave her a thumbs up and ran out the door to wait for May to pick me up. She texted saying she was 2 minutes away.

    After 2 minutes, she pulled up and I jumped in. She looked me up and down, "See! The outfit is so cute!" "Well props to the person who chose it." She grinned then faced forward. She started driving and turned up the music. "Boyfriend" by Big Time Rush was playing. We sang along, then "Worldwide" came on, and we sang even louder. By the time that both songs finished, we had gotten to the fair.

    We got out of the car and walked quickly to get in line for wristbands. The line grew fast, but we saw our other friends get in line a bit after us. May tried to get them to line hop but the people behind us were glaring so they decided against it. There was five of us, but May and her boyfriend would pair up, and Rosie and Aaron would probably pair up as well. Once May and I got our bands, which were so overpriced, we went back to join our three other friends. The people behind them looked annoyed so we held up our wrists. It did not take too long before they got their bands.

    "Can we go on the swings first?" May asked, clinging to her boyfriend. We all agreed and headed that way. Tonight, was the last night of the fair, meaning there would be fireworks tonight. We headed to the swings, that only had a few people in front of it. We were let in immediately and we all got seats by each other. Rosie picked the seat closest to Aaron, who she obviously had a crush on. May tried picking a seat close to me and her boyfriend, Oliver. I'm fine with being a "fifth wheel", but it wasn't always like that. There used to be six of us, and I wasn't a third or fifth wheel. Things have changed though, in the past few weeks that is. The ride started suddenly, which shocked me back to reality. Swings was calming but still fun. The ride lasted only moments, or it felt like it. We picked up our bags on the way out.

   Rosie quickly spoke, "can we please go in the tunnel of love?" Wait, they have that here? "Oh uh, sure I guess." May looked at me and back at Rosie. "How about we wait on that Ro?" She frowned but understood what May was insinuating. "I can hold the bags, really, I don't want to make you wait. I'm alright with it." May sighed and we all headed over to the tunnel of love, which apparently is a thing here. They all handed me their things. As they walked to get in line, I whispered to myself, "It's a cruel summer." It took a while for them to get done, because it had a longer line than the swings. I leaned on the gate with one arm and scrolled through Instagram with the other. I turned my head for a second and saw him. I saw Liam. He was with her, the girl he cheated with. He saw me and his smile faded. He quickly got away. I don't think that girl knows he cheated with her. Would that make her upset? Would she even care?

   "BOO!" I jumped and turned around so fast. It was May, Rosie, Aaron, and Oliver. She saw the pain in my eyes and pulled me aside. "Hey, are you ok?" "He's here..." She looked so angry and knew who I was talking about immediately. "It's ok, I promise. It just shocked me a bit!" "Are you sure?" I nodded, and she hugged me. We walked back to the others. Aaron asked, "I'm thirsty, can we get lemonade?" We all said yes and walk to the lemonade concession. We sit down for a little and talk. I haven't seen Liam since we made eye contact at the tunnel. Either he is avoiding me, or they left.

   We finished our drinks and looked around. Oliver pointed at the ride that swung back and forth. I was terrified of it, but we went on anyway. We set our bags down when we reached the ride. I was so scared but May helped me calm down. I practically had my eyes closed the whole time. I didn't even realize it was over until Rosie shook me. We grabbed our bags and Oliver pointed at the scary version of a Ferris wheel. It was his favorite ride. We gave in and headed there. Of course, the other four paired up. I agreed to go alone on this one.
