Over and Out

It was around 7 pm, and I couldn't stop pacing around my room. Will was out there, scared and maybe even hurt. I'm tired of doing nothing. Will is not considered survival material.

He needs us.

I go downstairs to get my walkie. My dad hid it in an attempt to ground me. He then left for a weeklong work trip to Rode Island. Jokes on him, he has to be here to actually ground me.

I grab my walkie, but before I could say anything I hear a voice through the speaker.

"Penny, do you copy?" What a coincidence.

"I was just about to walkie you Mike, I can't stay here any longer. Will needs us, Are you in to go look for him?"

I really need him to say yes.

"That's exactly what I was going to tell you! I'll tell the others. Meet me by the basement window in 15, we'll go out together. Be safe, see you soon. Over and out."

I quickly get ready and head over to the Wheeler house. This bike ride was creepy and lonely. There was no one driving. No one walking. The lights from the houses were off. Even the dogs weren't barking. It felt like a ghost town.

I got to the Wheelers after about ten minutes. I look through the small window to  see Mike putting flashlights in his bag. I knock and watch Mike signal me to come inside.

I quickly climb through the window to be greeted with the warmth of the Wheelers house. Their house was always perfectly temped depending on the weather outside. Its always a comforting feeling to be inside their house, especially when I'm with Mike.

"Hey, can I ask you something?" I said fiddling with my hands.

"Yeah anything, whats up?"

"Are you afraid anything will happen to us? Like what if Will is gone and we're going right into the trap? No matter what I am going out to look for him but this thought keeps chewing at my mind." I looked down, Mike has seen me pour my heart out to him so many times, but the older we get the more embarrassed I am to talk to him about these things.

He lifted my chin," Hey, don't worry. We all have each other. I won't let anything happen to you. You are the toughest girl I know, but it's okay to be scared sometimes."

I gave him a big hug, and he gave me one back. In that moment I felt safe, and complete. Nothing was in my way, except that one stupid rule.

We pulled apart, arms still wrapped around. We stared at each other waiting for one of us to  break the silence. "Mike, can we please have a formal meeting about our party rules, I really wanna take one off of the list."

He chuckled, "yeah which one?"

"You know which one Wheeler. Do you think it would be possible?"

"How about we talk about this when we come back from our search, hopefully with Will. Then maybe we can remove it from our party rules...because I want it taken off too."

I nodded. We stared into each others eyes for a few more moments. I knew after we left this room things were never going to be the same. Our friend is gone and our lives are changing faster than the speed of light. I just needed this moment before things get out of hand.

"Ready?" I asked him.

"Born Ready. C'mon help me get my bike out of the garage, but quietly."

We both climbed out of the window, and headed to the garage. We then see Steve the hair Harring trying to get into Nancy's window. We make eye contact with him. This is so weird. But I can't look away he's so cute.

Steve waves at us causing Mike to roll his eyes and opened the garage, "gross" he said

"I wish Steve Harrington was trying to sneak into my room."

Mike gave me a disgusted look, "Then he would be considered a pedophile. C'mon let's go."

As I followed behind him I said "By the way don't be a snitch about him sneaking into Nancy''s room, she's not the one who had a slumber party last night was she?" He stared at me with a serious but playful face.

We grabbed out bikes and Mike and I headed to the woods to meet the rest of the party.

++++++++++++++

We were only walking around the woods for a few minutes before the rain came and gave us a surprise visit. But it wasn't going to stop us. We had a will to find Will. See what I did there?

We used our flashlights in hopes of seeing anything that looked like Will.

"Will? WILL?!?"

"BYERS?"

"I've got your "X-Men!" One-thirtyfour!"

Nothing.

"C'mon Will we can play D&D if you come back!" I added, in hopes of something.

We walked around for a bit longer in silence.

"Guys, I really think we should turnback," Dustin said unweary.

"Seriously, Dustin, if you want tobe a baby, just go home already."Lucas added, annoyed.

"I'm just being realistic, Lucas"

"No, you're being a sissy"

"You ever think Will went missingbecause, you know, he ran intosomeone bad? And now we're going tothe place where he was last seen, and we don't even have weapons oranything-"

There was something in the woods. Mike and I glanced at each other while walking closer to the noise.

"Dustin, shut up." I said

"I'm just sayin', does that seemsmart to you-"

Mike yelled "Shut up!" to quiet the boy.

"You guys hear that or am I losing my shit?" I asked.

Mike moves his flashlight around to find out what was making the noise.

His flash light stopped at a figure.

We all stared at the bald headed girl and she stared back.
