"Ugh, what the fuck am I gonna wear?"
It's been a stressful morning. Everyone in our room had overslept. It was partially my fault; I think I hit snooze three times. And to make matters worse, everyone forgot to grab coffee at the store yesterday, and there wasn't any time to go get some. I don't know what was going on in the other two hotel rooms, but this one has devolved into chaos. Mark and Ethan got into an argument over the bathroom, my bed looks like my suitcase exploded on it, and Amy had to finish fixing her hair on the floor in front of our couch.
"Trust me, D. You're gonna want to wear something comfortable," Mark yells from the kitchen area. I guess he lost the fight with Ethan for the bathroom.
"Yeah, but I also want to look nice," I shout back, picking up a shirt and immediately throwing it back on the bed.
"Hey," Mark says as he walks into the room, "You'll look good in anything."
"Real helpful," I responded, rolling my eyes.
Mark picks up an old shirt from the corner of the bed and a pair of ripped, black skinny jeans and tosses them to me. "Now get dressed," he orders, "we're already running late."
I sigh but get dressed anyways. Mark's hastened outfit choice reminds me of how I dressed in middle school, but it's too late to change. I grab my white shoes and a cap, since there's not really any time for me to fix my hair. I know I can apply some light makeup in the car or shortly after we get there, so I'm ready to go. I grab my bag off of the nightstand near my bed and head towards the hotel hallway.
"Alright, what's taking everyone so long," I joke. I open the door and nearly run into Sean. We laugh and he pushes past me to enter the room, Gab following behind him.
"Hey, I thought we were meeting in the lobby," Mark comments, exiting from the bathroom. I guess he gave up and just joined Ethan in there because I never saw Ethan come out.
"We were, but after being down there for almost fifteen minutes we decided to come find you guys."
"It's been a rough morning, Green Bean." I give Sean a pat on the back and head to the fridge. I need something, anything with caffeine in it. Mark walks into the kitchen and stands directly behind me.
"So, I see you and Sean made up," he says quietly.
"Yeah, we had a good talk." I turn to look at him and I can read his face instantly. "Not like that," I groan, "Trust me. He is very into Gab."
"Just be smart, Danielle."
"Oh, full legal name. I must be in trouble." I walk past him and back to the others who are all goofing off.
"Are we ready to go," Amy asks. We all begin walking towards the door as some form of an answer. We shuffle into the elevator, and I intentionally take a spot next to Gab. I promised Sean I would try with her. I like to keep my promises.
"So, Gab, are you excited," I ask. It might sound kind of lame, but I need to make a connection with her.
"Yeah, I am," she smiles. She must be trying as hard as I am. At the very least we have one thing in common: we both want Sean to be happy. And I can tell it's working because I see him smile behind Gab.
We get down to the lobby and find Felix and Marzia waiting there and ready to go.
"What took so long," Felix asks.
"Don't get me started," my eyeroll contradicting the smile on my face.
Without any time to waste, we walk out to the cars. I walk to the one I have the key for and turn to motion for Gab and Sean to follow me. No one can say I'm not putting my best foot forward. However, to my surprise, Gab is the one to hop in the backseat. Sean ducks into the passenger side, and we head off. I follow Mark; the venue is a decent ride away and I don't navigate nearly as well as he does. Ethan is following behind me in his own car. I don't remember why he wanted to ride separately, but he and Mark discussed it last night.
