No-Visor, a being which was no doubt some demon, stood twice as tall as any other Bean. Its wide mouth never wavered from a smug, joyless smile. The cultists bowed their heads to the monster, still muttering their cult platitudes. They kept an iron grip on Player and his friends.
"Master," they said, kneeling.
The demon ignored them, focusing on Player instead. "At long last, fate has brought us together. Player. I have waited for this moment for years. I have seen your potential...ever since you were a mini, I could sense your power. And now, here you are, poised to unite it with mine..."
Player couldn't speak. He stood there, petrified with fear. What he had seen thus far were apparitions -- the monster when it only had a tenuous grip on the mortal plane. But now he was in No-Visor's realm, where the beast dwelled in its full form.
"You," said the demon, turning to Dr. Doktor. "Honor your side of the bargain."
Duncan forced the red knife into Dr. Doktor's paws.
"Prepare--" Its evil grin grew wider. "--the host. Cut off his visor, and assure his loyalty to me. Make him one of us."
"No!" cried Player as Dr. Doktor approached him with the knife. "You don't have to do this. You're better than this!"
He said nothing, and he raised the knife. Its blood-colored blade gleamed wickedly.
"Get on with it, Doktor," urged Duncan. "Do not keep the master waiting. You know how he hates that."
As if to prove his point, a low growl rose from the demon as it watched.
He sighed. "For Aiden."
Player shut his eye, waiting for the blow. He had hoped this wasn't how he would meet his end -- losing his visor, his personhood, and his free will to some ancient monster. He prepared to feel the knife pierce his flesh. He heard it slice the air and then--
Dr. Doktor swept to his side and buried the knife in Duncan's visor instead. The old man screeched and fell on his back. Pulling the blade back out, the black Bean rushed at the cultists holding Player and slashed them both. They died without a cry, their heads falling to the ground. No-Visor looked on, his smile turning into a snarl.
"No! You traitor!" it roared. "Faithful ones, slay him."
"Not if we can do something about it!" Captain bodyslammed one of the cultists holding on to him and kicked the other down. One of the others pulled a knife of their own, only to be run through from behind by Ninja's katana.
He even had a cool one-liner. "今日、悪は勝ちません。"
Free from their grip, Player fell on his knees. "Doktor!"
"It's what Aiden would have wanted," said the black Bean, still holding the red knife.
"That's not what I meant--LOOK OUT!"
No-Visor lashed out at Dr. Doktor with one of his big, taloned paws. The doctor went flying from the powerful blow and hit a rock. He slumped to the ground. He writhed, groaning. The knife clattered to the rocks next to Player.
"What's this? It seems your ally is downed!" mocked No-Visor. "What will you do now?"
The red Bean grunted angrily and picked up the knife.
"Gaze upon the friends you have lost," it went on, indicating a rift as it yawned open. "Lost from your own actions! Your own cruel words! You insulted them, abandoned them, and now they are coming for you."
The ghosts of Mr. Cheese, the Gentleman, Veteran, and others rose from the depths, bearing faces without visors. Player's fur spiked up.
"I have taken everything from you. Your friends, your family...They've all abandoned you. And you are too weak to save anyone."
